Both immigrants.

Now- lets get Brexit done and stop these leeches getting in.

Even after you've edited it, I'm still lost.

Sorry if my post wasn't clear. But everytime the brexit debate starts someone on here has to do the standard post.
lettts git breecket dun coz its the forgigneers fawlt. On the assumption that everyone who voted brexit clearly is a racist and wasn't intelligent enough to have been able to have voted for any other reason.

Not everybody who voted for Brexit was racist AND stupid. A few were just stupid.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Whilst I’m sure you’re right, there’s also no denying that we as a country have made people like those nurses feel incredibly unwelcome. There’s a reason they are leaving in droves and arriving in far fewer numbers.

The rhetoric around the referendum didn’t contain that nuance and there was some utterly shameful posturing around immigration.

Saying we don’t want people like you but we don’t mind you personally because you have skills we need is hardly a welcoming message.

Quite. If Jonson was well enough to make the video he did, then he should have been compos mentis enough to himself be aware of the irony of his personal gratitude in the context of his public stand on Brexit, with the restrictions of that on freedom of movement & the resulting shortages of workers in key areas such as the NHS & carers.

No, I agree it isn’t helpful and I certainly don’t align with any view that Eastern European’s aren’t welcome

What I perhaps rather charitably thought the poster may have been getting at was that there have been subsets of those communities that have emigrated to areas of the UK such as Ipswich and caused a number of problems, which in my view makes it easy to understand why your average Ipswich resident may see that type of immigration as being an issue

Having re-read those posts though I was probably being too generous and you and Herbivore were right to comment on it

What I don't get is the fact that so many who voted for Brexit seem to think that because they personally didn't see it as racist, they are not at all responsible for the way it is perceived by those who have that agenda and those who are persecuted by it.

It was clear from the outset that a significant vote for it would have an enabling effect for the racists and a deterring effect on immigrants. I even know of expats who decided not to return to this country because of the vote and they did not want to live in such an insular xenophobic place. They said it was not the same Britain they had left. That is as well as other Britons who I know who have left and some of their reasoning being similar.

Embarrassing post

A tiny minority of actual racist nuts aside, any Brexiteer pointing to immigration is against free movement of labour, not restricting skilled labour that we actually need such as those supporting the NHS

It’s posts like this that make any kind of reasoned debate on the subject impossible

What also has to be considered is the way EU workers perceived the climate in this country. In 2018 my wife was taken seriously ill and spent nearly two weeks in a large, nationally renowned, university teaching hospital. They were closing wards then because so many nurses had decided to go home (mainly Spain and Portugal). I spent most of each day at the hospital and many of those remaining felt there was an undercurrent of hostility they had not experienced prior to the referendum.

Incredibly sad to hear that.

Do you feel able to say which region that was in? London, Midlands, North eg?
