Was it preference, or were we outmanoeuvred (Ross)? Couldn't agree terms/budgets with them (Lampard)? Interestingly all 4 are no longer in the same job - but for wildly different reasons

Robbie Fowler applied for the Town job according to the EADT... on 14:05 - Apr 24 by Swansea_Blue | If Potter was interested in us when he was looking to come back to the UK and we prioritised Hurst instead, ME needs his head read. He's ideally suited to the development of talent, which is what ME is supposedly all in favour of. Gets teams playing football, which is supposedly one of the other points on Evan's 'plan'. We've no idea if there was genuine interest, but if there was it would be peak Evans. And another example of why we've headed downwards under him. |
I completely agree. As much as Hurst seemed to fit the bill at the time, even without the benefit of hindsight Potter would have been a much better appointment. I didn't think he was ever seriously in the frame though.

Robbie Fowler applied for the Town job according to the EADT... on 13:51 - Apr 24 by patrickswell | Hurst was worth a punt at the time based on the fact that he had a record of leaving clubs in better positions than when he joined them. Whenever I see the lists of people that were on the shortlist alongside him, all I can think is, “How many of them would have alienated everyone at the club by the end of their first week?” |
I was really pleased when Hurst took the job. Had done well with basically rubbish little clubs with no money so how could he fail with an slightly larger rubbish club with no money? With a fresh outlook, I thought he’d do well and was very optimistic. If not Bobby Robson at least something more positive than the McCarthy’s proper blokes and definitely better than the two hapless idiots that trundled up before MM. Oh. When I look at the other names allegedly shortlisted, they couldn’t have done any worse, including Ross who might have done ok here. Who knows. What I do know is that with the club in the state it’s in, Klopp himself would struggle to do anything here. [Post edited 24 Apr 2020 15:16]

There had been a body of opinion on here for a while that he would make an ideal manager for Town, coupled with a sense of realism that he'd probably be out of our reach.

Robbie Fowler applied for the Town job according to the EADT... on 14:45 - Apr 24 by Chutney | Re. Lampard it seems surprising to me that someone can get far enough in the process that they're shortlisted in the final 4 before it becomes apparent that we're worlds away by way of budget / expectations. |

Scott Parker is the one I've always thought looks like being a major error. He was definitely interviewed, as was Tim Sherwood. He impressed ME but the reaction to the news that he was in contention rather put them off him.

Whose reaction to the news put them off? They surely weren't paying attention to numpties on social media, was it press people they were bothered by?
