Lots of good Punk albums have been and gone but, let's not mess about here, the bestest is the Sex Pistols album. Personal preference is for the Spunk Rock version followed by Damned, Damned , Damned and White Riot. A lot of what followed this three were wannabees and clueless. Others took the blueprint and went nowhere unlike bands like the Banshee's and Subway Sect right up to the likes of Oasis and the Mondays.

People are going to argue that not everything Patti Smith has done is punk or that the New York Dolls did was punk in a musical sense but both had a challenging attitude that set them apart from the music scene they found themselves in and that eventually won over detractors of all sorts of hues.
From a punk...slight return era but still, for my money, the best balance between three chord musical mayhem, great songs and ease of accessibility to the non-hardcore listener I settle for Dookie.
I wouldn't say they are my absolute favourites but the fact that they were so far ahead of their time is why I suggested them, maybe should have included the MC5 and or The Ramones as well.
Fair to say Never Mind should also be considered as it was both very good and groundbreaking.
If it was my absolute favourite though I would go for Rattus Norvegicus

Couldn't agree more about Rattus Norvegicus - to my mind one of the best debut albums of all time, although the purists would say (correctly) that The Stranglers weren't strictly punk. However, most of that album still sounds great now, unlike the early offerings of many of the punk bands.

"It's only the children of the f@cking wealthy that tend to be good looking!"... Played it to death.

I think they had been knocking about for so long that they were just glad to tag on to the coattails of punk when they got the chance.
My cousins band used to tour with them, I was staying at her flat once and went through her address book and saw Jet Black in there so I phoned him.
No one answered - probably fortunately

Have to say (ignoring Music for Pleasure), that the first 3 Damned albums (D D D, Machine Gun Etiquette and The Black Album) are nearly the best consecutive debut albums of any band I listen to regularly, beaten only by the first 4 albums by XTC (White Music, Go 2, Drums and Wires, Black Sea), and just in front of Motörhead's first 4 albums (excluding On Parole)
You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....

Death Church for sure
though this is a foot tapper
What was the record shop that used to be in Queen Street Ipswich?
I remember buying In Darkness There Is No Choice from there the day after John Peel played Yet They Still Ignore on his show. The record shop people were a bit bemused that day, because that day they had a stream of customers turning up to buy that one album.
