Overall, I think the Pet Shop Boys are one of the most overrated band of the 80s, lot of Stock Aitken and Waterman style pop music but.......... West End Girls is just a brilliant tune.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
And I got given a hard time for liking 'Bohemian Rhapsody'...
Bohemian Rhapsody is overblown and was essentially more prog rock in a time of prog rock. West End Girls was a genuinely different sound much like Ghost Town which was at number 2.

I think you might be in a bit of an echo chamber there.
I sort of expected that. I checked the full list of 100 and have concluded that it's someone elses list and not mine. I was spitting blood that Pulps Common People wasn't on the list but have now realised it never got to no 1. Kept off by the Robson and Jerome version of Unchained Melody. And that's this list in a nutshell. If the buying public favour a couple of B-list actors crooning a cover version rather than a classic pop song then that's why this list is not my list.
Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

That is part of it, for me 'All Right Now' should be in there but it only got to No.2 in the United KIngdom (it was Number One in many other states). But another vital flaw is the skewing of the preferences by age and regional demographic that deprives the list of The Everly Brothers and (I think) Buddy Holly.

Given Dead or Alive was number 5 on this list it isn't really my list either :)

That’s why Yiu can’t go wrong with Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 Greatest Songs.
Chart position is irrelevant and some songs weren’t even released as singles.

Have an uppie. Bohermian Rhapsody along with Hotel California and Baker Street are the 3 songs that would make me switch radio stations. Personally I would have had Ghost Town at number one but West End Girls isn't a bad shout imo.
