Three clubs have to go up each year - why not us. Other cubs will be working under the same rules.

And you expect us to compete in the Championship with a £2.5m-a-year budget?

It will create a gap- much the same as exists between champ and prem. It will ensure the strongest players leave for higher divisions earlier, where they can be paid more.

It is intended to drag some of the big clubs down to the level of the majority. Caps are fine- but should clearly be based upon income.

Of course they should be based on income!

Why on earth should clubs attracting 18k a week be forced to pay the same amount as Accrington who get 2k fans? It makes no sense. As a commercial entity you might as well stick a fork in us.

They might as well just shut off the CHampionship and be done with it - this is where this is all leading.

We have been releagted 2 times in 20 years and both times at the very worst possible time - with the caveat that we should have done better this season and this shouldn't be an issue.

Clubs can't run Category 1 and 2 academies under such restrictions, it really is just drawing a line between the top 2 tiers and the rest - worrying times when on this side of the fence

Which is currently what is in place - like you say in this form it is stupid.

It does less to protect clubs than the existing rules

I imagine a cap wouldnt impact on academy spending. It will hweover mean that the champ clubs can come and stockpile young players by offering better money, then loaning them out for experience in the same way the prem clubs already do.

Its self reinforcing.

Should only really happen if the Champ has a salary cap too.

Which they cant possibly agree to- unless the prem has one. Which it wont- because that would be to give up their enormous advantage.

Clearly it should be a % of income/turnover and not a flat amount across the division.

What about relegated clubs? Do they get an immediate points deduction as they will be absolutely miles above that limit the following season if the players stay.

This is awful news for us as by having a similar level squad to everyone else, club success will be down to the coaching staff and obviously Lambert is the worst manager in the efl.

We retain an advantage for a year or two with the academy but given time, that too will fade.

It wouldn't impact it directly, but how can you have an U23 team if only allowed 20 players over 21?

We currently have 24 on the books - but that includes Harry Wright, Ben Morris, Folami, Drinan, Cotter, Nydam, etc who have a couple of dozen appearances between them for one reason or another

It was increased from an U21 team to an U23 team as felt that some players need a little longer to develop - but now we'd not be able to keep the likes of Folami and Morris who have suffered long injuries as they will take up a valuable squad place

Yes- but it would do so suddenly, in circumstances where the quality of the squad was way short of the Champ.

What is the phasing of this?

If we have a year or two before it comes in then we only have ourselves to blame if we don't get promoted.

It would have to be 2021/22 at the earliest no way can anyone be expected to get that sorted in terms of contracts for start of 2020/21 season ( when it starts! )

So we probably have 2 seasons to get promoted.

Step forward Mr Dyer.

Sadly we’ll be in year 3 or 4 of Shambert.

Without a salary cap our squad was well short of Championship quality, as we proved spectacularly last season!

We have failed as a club at the worst possible time on the face of it. The decline will continue and I can't see an end to it.

Thanks Marcus!

As Joe says that’s a massive burning platform we find ourselves on.
I wonder what Marcus thinks? Pull out all of the stops to get up at any cost (with no guarantee) or a blessed relief as it’s a get out jail card for his finances?

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

ITFC have been a corpse rotting from the inside since the day Evans took over with no connection whatsoever to what the club used to stand for.

I'm surprised you hadn't noticed.
