Book thread 17:06 - Jun 22 with 7261 views | footers | Haven't had one of these in a while. Always good to see what people are reading and get some recommendations. My latest two were actually suggestions from here: Every Country We've Ever Invaded (And The Few We've Never Got Round To) by Stuart Laycock and The Famine Plot by Tim Pat Coogan. Both excellent, and many thanks to those who recommended them. Not sure what's next as I've got a habit of re-reading rather than buying new. Let's see what TWTD magic can be weaved today....

Change that ridiculous avatar and start again, maybe even making some friends like normal people? In the meantime, read this:

Why have you felt the need to do that? Am I allowed to comment on anything without all this nonsense?

And there's me trying to connect with you. Do away with the provocative avatar and let's start again. That's about the friendliest offer you could expect surely? I'll even buy you a beer some day if you put up something a bit nicer.

What's Madge got on the go, some Maeve Binchy or similar?

Yeah I don't think he appreciated those boudoir photos you had taken for him to keep him company at sea. You could have at least shaved your legs first mate!

The hair helps to cover the blemishes. Besides, hair's making a comeback. So the sites say anyway.

I've left you alone mate, like I said, I'm not getting involved in all that stuff anymore. It's a waste of my time. It was just a suggestion I thought might help others show you were being genuine.

It's not nonsense. You've been unkind and you've got a bit back. Now we have an opportunity to start over. And I will actually buy you a beer one day, but no funny stuff.

Book thread on 21:07 - Jun 22 with 665 views | GeoffSentence | I generally have a few on the go at the same time, currently they are How to argue with a racist by Dr Adam Rutherford, which is my worthy choice Platform 7 by Louise Doughty, which I am reading because it is set on the familiar location of Peterborough Station, not as good as I was hoping. White Gold Wielder by Stephen Donaldson, re-reading this for the nth time, this is my dirty, uncool fantasy geek choise. I'd recommend Stephen Donaldson for anyone who likes a bit of fantasy, though by fantasy standards he can be quite a heavy read and he does like an anti-hero.

I don’t think I’ve been unkind but as an act of goodwill have changed my avatar. Ending this discussion on this thread so the OP can actually get some book advice! [Post edited 22 Jun 2020 21:11]

I gave up on The Wheel Of Time after the third book and decided that any series with more than three in it is a waste of time. TWOT has 15 books (including the prequel), is nearly four and half million words long, took nearly 23 years to write, so long that Robert Jordan died before he had finished it and it had to be finished by Brandon Sanderson. Just too much for me, especially as there was quite a bit of saminess about the first three books, didnt fancy going on the same trip for another 11 and possibly 12.

I grew up on the J&Js I'll have you know. After the couple I have on the go I have 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee' staring at me from the shelf. Gotta be honest with you, I think I'm going to need to be in the right frame of mind for that one. I've struggled with a few books in the recent past. It's one thing wanting to educate oneself, it's another thing being able to cope with some of the material.

I hope you find it an interesting and enjoyable read, despite the seriousness of the subject matter

I'll let you know in due course. I've got a couple to go before I attempt that one. I'm more ignorant of Northern Ireland and the Troubles than I would like to be so am about to read more on that first.
