Book thread 17:06 - Jun 22 with 7255 views | footers | Haven't had one of these in a while. Always good to see what people are reading and get some recommendations. My latest two were actually suggestions from here: Every Country We've Ever Invaded (And The Few We've Never Got Round To) by Stuart Laycock and The Famine Plot by Tim Pat Coogan. Both excellent, and many thanks to those who recommended them. Not sure what's next as I've got a habit of re-reading rather than buying new. Let's see what TWTD magic can be weaved today....

Book thread on 21:16 - Jun 22 by jeera | I grew up on the J&Js I'll have you know. After the couple I have on the go I have 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee' staring at me from the shelf. Gotta be honest with you, I think I'm going to need to be in the right frame of mind for that one. I've struggled with a few books in the recent past. It's one thing wanting to educate oneself, it's another thing being able to cope with some of the material. |
That is one of the most incredible and difficult books i have ever read. Everyone should read this tragedy

The Cruyff book’s an interesting read. Would be good to hear what you think once you’ve finished it.

Book thread on 21:11 - Jun 22 by GeoffSentence | I gave up on The Wheel Of Time after the third book and decided that any series with more than three in it is a waste of time. TWOT has 15 books (including the prequel), is nearly four and half million words long, took nearly 23 years to write, so long that Robert Jordan died before he had finished it and it had to be finished by Brandon Sanderson. Just too much for me, especially as there was quite a bit of saminess about the first three books, didnt fancy going on the same trip for another 11 and possibly 12. |
It needed editing down for sure. I've nearly finished book 5 and the next one is a monster. Some amazing characters and some not so amazing characters. I'm looking forward to when I finally finish it. Probably around Christmas haha!
Book thread on 00:54 - Jun 23 with 2326 views | WeWereZombies | Finished 'Small Island' by Andrea Levy yesterday and it is back to 'Post War Japanese Poetry' edited by Lynn and Harry Guest, but will probably put that down for a bit after a few pages and start 'The Common Ground' by Richard Mabey.

The Black Baroness - Dennis Wheatley (not a black magic one though). David Niven - The Moon's a Balloon. I've read it before, but it's very funny.

Read The Moons a Balloon years ago. Will have to find it for a re read. The Dice Man that LB mentions is a decent read also.

Is that the one where Cruyff talks about himself as if he's some sort of superman? Bit of a bighead, but maybe justified? A more down to earth football book is "The greatest footballer you never saw. The Robin Friday Story." I'm currently reading Labrynth by Kate Mosse. I picked up a bunch of books at the charity shop pre-lockdown, and this one was really for Mrs M, but I've read all the rest and this is the last one. Not bad.
