A good walk ruined or a challenging and sometimes rewarding outdoor pastime.

Anyone else have a love/hate relationship with said game?

Haha we are danger of turning this thread into a sport. I feel a little tired. All in good spirit bud. I should be working!

Perhaps we should change the subject as we have been going at this for quite a while now.

Who is your favourite winner of the BBC sports personality of the year award?
Mine is Tony Jacklin, as well as having a great personality he was also a fantastic 'sportsman'. Closely followed by Nick Faldo, what a great 'sportsman' he was as well

i don't play hobby games haha. (i'm terrible at chess you're fine!)

You are right though. It's a silly thing to row about. I think just the snidyness of the post 'why people get so sniffy' landed a bite from me.

I'll climb down haha. (Although i haven't read herbs next post yet).

It's certainly a touchy subject for some people though.

There was an old boy who drank in my local a few years ago and he genuinely felt he was a cut above, didn't like me at all and couldn't take a joke of any sort.

He was on about how he'd been following some tournament on the radio.

The radio. Golf for goodness sake.

I asked him that works cos it must be like listening to a fishing contest.

And he was really put out, all red in the face, "That's because you don't understand the game!"

I went through a phase of playing semi-regularly when I was getting invited to corporate days in a previous job.... by the time I added those to semi-frequent rounds with friends and relatives, I was playing a dozen times a year and quite enjoyed it, to the extent I bought a set of custom-made clubs with longer shafts as I am pretty tall.

But since changing jobs, my uncle passing away and a general lack of time, I've probably only played a handful of times in the last five years.

Bit of a shame, as I do enjoy it when I play, but just don't have the time regularly enough to get even vaguely competent. As a result, I as likely to get a 10 on a hole as I am a 4 or 5.

Love. I am not one of those stuffy types who frequent the bar and tell everybody what a success they are. I just love the game. I play off 4, which is pretty good, but unable to get any better. My short game has always let me down.

I've never been able to get into it. Didn't mind pitch and putt as a kid but it's just not for me. A lot of men who golf seem to be 'lads' and I find that off-putting as well.

I'm glad you've referred to it as a passtime and a game, it makes me chuckle when people call it a sport.

If darts and snooker are, then golf definitely is.

I just finished at a society day at Maxstoke Park. Beautiful course, outrageously warm

Golf, along with darts and snooker, is a game or passtime rather than a sport.

If you are going to insist on this, then you at least need to spell it correctly. It's pastime. There is no such word as passtime.

Given some of your typos earlier pal, you're in no place to criticise.

Indeed.
I probably use more energy carting my fishing tackle from the van to the desired peg than the average golfer, darts player or snooker player does in their entire sessions.

Fishing is a pastime, not a sport.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.
