Garbutt leaving Everton 15:51 - Jun 25 with 1737 viewsPlums

Announced on R5 a few minutes ago. Doubt we have much of a chance as there must be at least one Championship club interested? Surely...

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
Poll: Which recent triallist should we have signed?

We need to cut down on loans and develop our own players. This continual stop-gap approach isn’t getting us anywhere. The Lawrence/Fraser/Celina loans kinda made sense in the Mick era and probably helped us stay or over achieve in the championship.

Let’s focus on buying gems such as KVY and throw in our youths.

He probably joined us expecting to get promoted to the Championship and get a deal with us there. As we completely fcked that up he'll try and go somewhere better.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Correct, we have ZERO chance.

Wages alone would rule him out.

RIP Sir Bobby

A lower championship club will take a chance with him. He is way out of Evans’ price range.

Him leaving Everton is no surprise. He has not future there and it is pointless them giving him a contract.

Whether he gets a contract in the Championship depends a lot on what money is available and which clubs are after players. Plenty of clubs are going to be saddled with contracts they agreed in order to avoid losing players out of contract.

One thing is for sure, wherever his next contract is it will be for far less money than he has been on. If we can afford it we should get him because he makes a big difference to us as a team. However, where will we stand financially?

Well he would not be a loan as he now has not got a club. We will offer him a three year deal but as many have pointed out we have next to no chance of getting him as he will of course get better offers from Championship clubs !

….the vast majority of which have been in the 3rd or 4th tier.

He's probably earnt around £9,000,000 in that time.

Football is a total disgrace.

They earn our money! Or the money of those who pay for Sky anyway.

What sort of wage can Garbutt realistically expect next season ?

A loss but not a huge one. He is not a Premier League player or even a upper Championship one. He also has no potential in the sense that he is in his prime and unlikely to improve.

If he were a permanent League One player he would be lucky to get £5 K a week. Strikers in general earn more and IMO the best striker in the division is Toney and I doubt he warns more than £10k.

I tend to agree the reason he was on big money was that he was seen as the replacement for Leighton Baines but soon slipped down the pecking order at Everton and was sent out on loan think it was Charlton before us . He has done well for us but without setting the world alight . Most on here over the last six months or so have been making the point that we would find it difficult to keep him if we didn't get promoted but as yet i would not completely rule it out. What must be true that we will ask his agent to be kept in the loop and see what happens .

He was at Oxford and had a similarly mixed time with some issues at LB and better performances at LM according to them.
