I’m not down with the kids but on 17:01 - Jul 24 by Warkystache | Is Stormzy grime as well? That's just daft polemic rap. Bit like those dirges Billy Bragg used to make, except with plenty of 'bitches' and swearing. |
I’d call him pop these days, but he came from the grime scene.

This went on and on for hours. Vile hatred against Jews. His Twitter account is still up. Just a handful of his more disgusting tweets have been deleted. He should be arrested for incitement to racial hatred. One tweet threatening Jews with Corn, which is slang for bullets apparently. Baddiel raises a very good point about how some media outlets have reported this. Wiley went in an antisemitic rant. I think we can all agree on this. A couple of tweets mentioned Israel but in the whole it was Jew, Jew, Jew. Compare and contrast how the Guardian reported the story and the standard. This really isn’t about Israel. People who seek to trivialise antisemitism always go down this road and the Guardian and NME headline is a perfect example of that. [Post edited 25 Jul 2020 7:38]

I’m not down with the kids but on 07:38 - Jul 25 with 2394 views | pointofblue | I was reading a letter from JK Rowling amongst others about the ‘cancel’ culture and how people shouldn’t be told to stop investing in those who have particular views. It did make for a convincing read but then I see this and wish those who spread this kind of misinformation and hate would lose everything which makes them influential on others.

500k twitter followers. His account should be deleted, I believe he has a 12 hour ban, arrested and his career finished imo.

That's very poor from the Guardian. He's not skirting or overstepping the line here, he's jumped the line and ran about a mile past it. Hopefully he will face some serious consequences.

Why have the posts just been left there for everyone to see? I’m astounded they haven’t been removed and the outcry seems pretty low level too. I wonder if we’ll get a statement clearly written by his manager as his next post? “I am very sorry for any hurt cause...”

I think Marlon Solomon expresses the sheer frustration and exhaustion of British Jews in this never ending hatred with this one tweet. Edit. I remember somebody posting in here that as Jews only make up less than 300k of the British population, why does the subject of antisemitism get so much disproportionate coverage? The question should be, with less than 300k of the British population being Jewish, why do Jews occupy the minds of so many people who indulge in millennia old tropes and conspiracies? I think it’s naive to the career of Wiley to assume he won’t come back from this - he is well known for blowing up and insulting people, but remains one of the most successful self-started and self-sufficient musicians in the UK today. Obviously it’s absolutely terrible what he’s saying, but these views are quite rife in both UK and US rap and so I don’t think he will be damaged too much in that regard.

"These views are quite rife in both UK and US rap and so I don’t think he will be damaged too much in that regard." I'll admit I'm not an expert on the rap scene but after seeing the tangent he went off on yesterday, it's a little concerning that "those view are rife" are seen as a bit of a pass and he'll be able to come back and say sh1tty things again at some point...

No, my point isn’t that it’s fair game to say what he has been saying, but more that there is a history of these kind of tropes being prevalent in rap - the black guys do the rapping, the white Jews are the money men and managers is something that is there in NWA, Wu-Tang, Nas, Scarface and more recently Jay Electronica and Pusha T.

Because Twitter are crap at dealing with this kind of thing. Occasionally I have a look at the replies to Sadiq Khan tweets and have ended up clicking through to accounts whose timelines are full of racism. I've seen several apparently US-based accounts who are obsessed with the idea that Jews are behind mass-migration to the US in a planned attempt to wipe out white people.

It took years to get Katie Hopkins of Twitter.

Wiley went further in a few hours than Hopkins or Tommy Robinson did in their entire Twitter careers. Some of his tweets crossed the line from hate speech into inciting violence.

Wasnt aware of any wu tang connection. But it was certainly a thing with NWA. Hence Cube's infamous line, having left, "how can you be the N for life crew, with a white jew telling you what to do". Then, of course, there was the Farrakhan inspired stuff that got Griff removed from Public Enemy.
