Anyone else get the feeling Downes has thrown his toys out of the pram? on 13:11 - Sep 16 by Herbivore | So you've put forward a contradictory argument it seems. |
No. I initially said "reading between the lines" but then looked at some of the quotes again and thought "actually you don't really need to read between the lines all that much." Not sure what you're having difficulty understanding here.

Anyone else get the feeling Downes has thrown his toys out of the pram? on 13:11 - Sep 16 by itfcjoe | I only know from Col U fans about their one, but no - they were seen as key players and not disrupters but he just wanted rid of them so they were banished. No real comment to press about it, as doesn't like speaking to the press about anything. |
Surprising he's making these little digs in the press about Downes (and his agent) then.

Anyone else get the feeling Downes has thrown his toys out of the pram? on 13:14 - Sep 16 by jayessess | Your position is that Downes has definitely refused to play, based on your interpretation of remarks that (a) don't definitively say that and (b) are only one side of the story, in any case. My position is that I'm reserving judgement on whether Downes has refused to play, certainly until someone is prepared to actually state on the record that he has. |
You're literally making stuff up now. Where have I stated "Downes has definitely refused to play"?!? I'm simply going on what Lambert and Taylor have said: "I'd have played if it were me"/"You'll have to ask Flynn if he's ready to play." It LOOKS from those quotes that it's Flynn's decision not to play. I'm not saying anything definite at all.

So Lambert wasn't shy about stating it then? So why would he be so now? Clearly, like Mick, he's not bothered what the press/fans think.

You do need to read between the lines given that there's quite a big difference between saying "that's a question for Flynn" (or words to that effect) and "Flynn has said he won't play". A more literal reading of the former would suggest that they don't know and haven't asked him themselves rather than he has refused to play. So you do need to read between the lines to a fair degree to get to concluding that Downes is refusing to play. [Post edited 16 Sep 2020 14:04]

Why would you take what they say that literally? You honestly think the management team don't know if their best and most valuable player is ready to play and haven't asked him?! It's like taking "I don't know who's advising him" literally. Of course he knows. He was making a point. I really don't think "that's a question for Flynn" and "Flynn has said he won't play" are "quite a big difference." It says Flynn is calling the shots about whether he's ready or not.

Basically anything that agrees with your viewpoint is fine to be shown as a lie or not to be taken literally, but anything that disagrees is vague and able to be read between the lines and to be taken literally

I think he is being heavily instructed through his new agent. Time will tell whether his agent has done a good job, or a stinker.

Anyone else get the feeling Downes has thrown his toys out of the pram? on 12:02 - Sep 16 by BrixtonBlue | I mean, you've literally just admitted your agenda right there. You don't like Lambert, which is why you're putting the blame on him for all this. Have a read of what I posted to Joe. It just doesn't make any sense why they would piss off their best and most valuable player for no reason. If you step back and look at it logically, from everything we know it looks increasingly like the player not wanting to play. I love Flynn as a player and I really want to be wrong on this... but come on, be honest, it really does look like it's him (and his agent) who are at fault. Bear in mind as well, if this really is Lambert and Taylor telling porkies, they'll be pissing off Flynn's teammates too. What on earth would be the benefit of that? |
Don't know why everyone is piling into to Dolly for this, seems a perfectly plausible comment. Crux of it is what does Lambert stand to gain by pissing off his MVP?

I'm not sure it follows that just because a course of action isn't sensible Lambert would never do it. I'm sure Downes handing in a transfer request was annoying to Lambert. People often say and do things that aren't sensible when they're angry. And if not pissing off your MVP is the crux of it, why say anything at all? Easy enough to say "no comment" or pretend he's got an injury.

But he's given him time off, he's been there himself as a player when things like this happen, he's not thrown him under the bus by any stretch, he's actually empathised to a point. But if after a few days off the blokes head still isn't right, (and we don't know if he's refused to play or not), a manger just wants committed players who are willing to put in 100%. If he had said it was an injury, it would have got out quite quickly that it was a lie.

Anyone else get the feeling Downes has thrown his toys out of the pram? on 12:44 - Sep 16 by BrixtonBlue | Has he? Not seen that myself. Got a link? If that is the case here, why wouldn't Lambert and Taylor just say "His head's not in the right place at the moment" and leave it at that? Why would they make all these little digs and allude to poor advice from his agent? Whatever you think of them as a management team, they're not complete assholes! |
