Golf courses are pointless. Their only saving grace is that they give the elderly male population something to do other than moan about how pointless leaf blowers are.
Golf's the most boring game ever invented. So's fishing, but that's more of a past-time.
Invented for commercial applications: parks, hotel grounds etc. Definitely a time saver in those scenarios where huge volumes of leaves need collecting. Also saves back problems for staff from repetitive bending and raking.
So then all the people with more money than sense see it and want a new toy. Domestic models become available.

Raking leaves on a large scale for a week seems to me a suitable task for some people sentenced to 'community service' or whatever it's called. They shouldn't need to do it for long enough to give them long-term back issues.

Golf's boring but at least it's pretty quiet. The one I'd ban is basketball. The irregular thud thud thud thud from ball on asphalt blights my summers. (Kids playing football on the same pitch doesn't bother me at all.)
