is the most pointless invention ever, isn't it?

I'm working in the garden and my neighbour's blowing his leaves around. Got a conference call soon, gonna have to go indoors for it.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Invented for commercial applications: parks, hotel grounds etc. Definitely a time saver in those scenarios where huge volumes of leaves need collecting. Also saves back problems for staff from repetitive bending and raking.

So then all the people with more money than sense see it and want a new toy. Domestic models become available.

Yeah I hadn't thought of the back issue, which would be an issue if you had LOADS of leaves to sweep. But yeah, not really necessary for someone's garden!

I think ride on lawnmowers make sense if you have a large plot of land. I have a mate who has one and although he does have a big garden, it's a boy toy really.

"extendable dog leads"

I hate those things.

The people who use them then don't understand why their dogs pull all over the place.

I wish I was a traffic cop in an unmarked car. I generally do the speed limit (my car shakes like it's scared if I go any higher) but every time I'm on a motorway I have people whizzing past me.

I'd love to pull out a flashing light, stick it on the roof and pull them over.

My issue is something even less practical and unnecessary. The plastic, nearly indestructible loops that attach various things to their packaging. You’ve battled through the outer plastic armour and then those little beggars. The twisty wire ones are just about acceptable.
I swear I bought some scissors that instructed you to use scissors to open them.

Utterly pointless, agree!

I bought some kitchen scissors a few days ago as it happens, and thought exactly that when I was struggling with this extremely sharp item trying to seperate it from a cardboard backing.

An impatient man attempting to get to some sharp blades that are tightly secured. What could go wrong?

Nope.

Raking can damage the lawn, especially if used on golf courses, etc where the lawn has to be kept perfect.

So no, not pointless.

Indeed. But if I were an undercover traffic cop I'd hope I'd get a bit better car than a Nissan Micra!

Leaf blowers are great.

Used mine so much this morning that the misery guts next door went the colour of a beetroot and had to go indoors for his conference call

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

I bet they own a patio heater too?

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I often do the speed limit. I just bend time on long journeys. That’s how I get back to the Toon so fast. Bending time. Definitely Officer.

If I had a pound for every time I've seen a council worker trying to move wet leaves with a leaf blower I'd have an extra £3 by now.

Wouldn't a leaf pickerupper be even better though? At least ride on mowers cut the grass.

First choice you'd think would be an aerator that can do the two jobs at once.

At home that is, not commercially, for which I fully understand and use of machinery.
