Now that i have your attention, Mrs Pinewood and I are looking to move house and would ideally like to live in a village environment, within a roughly 10 mile radius of Bury St Edmunds, Any of you reprobates on here have any reccomendations as to where would be a good place to take root. Must have a good pub or 3 and a local shop. Large village green optional...........and definately not Royston Vasey. Thanks.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.
10-15 minutes? You can spend 10 minutes getting through Clare on a bad traffic day!
Last time I drove from Glemsford to Haverhill was probably on a Vespa in the mid 90,s. My sister lives in Clare an I usually stay there when in England, it's a lovely village. Actually the entire stour valley area is beautiful

I wouldn't say 'plaque' as such.. but there may possibly be somewhere with my name on it, in a more carved nature, or also maybe graffiti as some might call it...
Suffolk's overrated...come to North East Essex instead. Cheaper housing (who wants to live in some backwater where they dun loike strangers loike and where you can still hear the A14?). Friendly (Suffolk people are renowned for their suspiciousness, especially near Bury. They probably still burn folk in some of those villages), good links for London, good coastal bits (if you don't count Clacton or Jaywick and, let's face it, we don't), good walks, big skies, close to Ipswich for the footy when it eventually happens, very low rates of Coronavirus, amenable women if you fancy a change from the wife now and then and don't want to be the gossip of the whole village, to the extent that people smirk when they see you, we still retain the rural accent and the roads are better, not them twisty country types with dead things squashed on 'em or some old girl driving her Micra at 10mph.
Plus we've got Tel. You love Tel, admit it Pinewood? Just think, I could be writing scurrilous stuff about you......

I do love Tel and i'd miss him terribly if you ever stopped doing the Warky report, but not enough to move to North Essex. Besides, Mrs Pinewood would like to join the Womens Institute and a good ole Suffolk bowls club, though God knows why.

Bury's a good place to be near.
I'm not sure I'd want to live in the town itself again, but to be on the outskirts is ideal.
Do bear in mind the routes regarding traffic etc, if you or she are on schedules. The Barton Road for example can be hideous.
The Fornhams are excellently placed if anything realistic shows there btw.

I live in Elmswell, moved here a few years back as we couldn't afford a 3-bed with a decent garden in Bury. It was a no brainer for us as it's on the trainline and so close to the a14, so 12mins to work in Bury. It's a lovely little village, very friendly and lots of young families. The only downside I'd say is the lack of a decent pub, the Fox is ok, was warned off the Railway Tavern when we moved in, supposed to be a bit rough. The Fox and Hounds in Thurston is lovely though and obviously only a stop away on the train. You've also got the Norton Dog a short drive or cycle away.

Norton Dog is a lovely little spot.
The last time I went into the Fox it was full of middle aged half cut dart players wearing Italia 90 England shirts that were so tight they looked like an obese Mark Owen in the Johnsons T Shirt

I lived in Stowlangtoft for several months once upon a time.
Feck me, there is nothing there - at all.
Norton was too far to walk and too dangerous to cycle home from the pub.
That's the problem isn't it, if you want a beer, then it doesn't matter how nice the place is if you've got to drive.
