itfc poppy badge on ebay 10:44 - Oct 27 with 2576 views | Harlestonblue | I tried to buy the £4.99 2020 ITFC poppy badge this morning from the British Legion site, only to see it is unavailable. It is, however, for sale on ebay at £8.99. No doubt some profiteering low life has bought loads and is actually trying to exploit the Remembrance of our war dead to line his own pockets. Sickening.

itfc poppy badge on ebay on 14:11 - Oct 27 by SpruceMoose | I was once in a meeting where the suggestion to 'table' an issue caused a bit of confusion among the Brits when we didn't proceed to discuss it. |
Do they not have shelves over there? They must have back-burners.

Not really! It's even worse when I come back to the UK. Have to be so focused on not letting any Americanisms slip into my speech. Friends absolutely hammer me if anything even vaguely American surfaces. Americanisms really grate on me, but after the 10,000th time someone comments on how you say lift and not elevator or bins and not dumpster you just give in and go native.

itfc poppy badge on ebay on 13:48 - Oct 27 by footers | "Halloween being an American thing that has no business being in the UK." Yeah, but that one's true, innit. Taken a sombre Catholic event and turned it into a cheap fad. |
And why the fook do Americas have to turn a single day event into a month... Halloween month Birthday month Its just spoiling the build up like shops do with Christmas by displaying Christmas related goods in September!

Do I take that to mean that I can't put you down for a Hartlepool United Remembrance shirt then?

They do? I've not noticed any difference here to be honest. I mean the UK has Easter eggs in shops in February and Christmas trees in shops in October!

itfc poppy badge on ebay on 14:04 - Oct 27 by jeera | Absolutely. Bloody Americanisms. "I guess this, I guess that".* Are you actually guessing or do you know? Or do you mean 'you suppose?' *This example irritates me the most as it is one I find myself using quite often. [Post edited 27 Oct 2020 14:05]

The use of the red poppy for remembrance originated in the USA, and was in part inspired by a French woman. There's a conundrum for our True Patriots Who Have A Shaky Grasp Of British History. Nice to see you back btw.

itfc poppy badge on ebay on 13:42 - Oct 27 by SpruceMoose | I see outrage season has started. Looking forward to all the yearly traditions throughout October, November and December - Random celebrity blasted for not wearing poppy on TV. - James McClean - Random Labour politician not looking suitably respectful at a wreath laying ceremony. - Halloween being an American thing that has no business being in the UK. - Kids are too fat to need sweets anyway. - Bonfire night fireworks are scaring my pets. - Black Friday being an American thing that has no business being in the UK. - Winterval. - Can't even say Merry Christmas these days. |
The BBC should tell all presenters and guests it's up to them, as adults, to decide whether or not to wear a poppy, and the BBC will defend their decision. After all, that's the freedom we all died for in some war or another.

Indeed they do. I also made the point of commercialism being the ruin of traditions. I do not know of anyone in the UK whom referees to Halloween as "Halloween season" or "Halloween month" I was also equally shocked and disgusted to hear people from the UK say that it is their "Birthday month" I'd ask where have/has these influences come from, logic dictates that considering our Television viewing is awash with American programs dedicated to spoilt little brats therein lies the answer.
