Who let him go?
Was it PL when we got KVY?

He had already demonstrated how effective he could be at this level from his loan spell at Rotherham.

It's mad what can happen to a player when they're not at a basket case of a club. Neither Hull fullbacks looked great for us, but they both have promotion credentials at this level and more than kept us quiet yesterday.

Jackson and Norwood would score 20+ goals each at a Hull. It's not about personnel, it's about having a manager who knows what to do with them.

I'm sorry, Emmanuel wasn't a 16-year-old with hidden attributes. If you release a player aged 22 and they then show up at a better team playing a lot better than your equivalent players, you've screwed up. Bottom line.

Just simply not true. Players make it at some clubs and don't at others. There are so many factors contributing to it.

Like a manager being unable to discern or nurture ability, perhaps?

The main mistake with Emmanuel was when he'd just finished a decent season loan spell with Rotherham, and then rather than give him a chance, we paid over the odds for Donacien, who even then just wasn't as good as Emmanuel, and basically never gave Emmanuel another chance. We ended up trying all sorts at full-back that season, which ended in relegation anyway.

I don't think this is a stick anyone can be beaten with. On tonight's show, Josh is about where you'd expect him to be on progression from playing every week in League 1 after leaving us.

Looks like he's worked on his deliveries, fair enough. Is he going to be the best RB in the league? No. He's still about half as effective as a fully fit KVY going forward.

All the best to him, though. He's doing better than 40% of our outfield players just in being fit to play.

He's miles better than Donacien, though, who the club paid a lot of money for while Emmanuel was at the club - for me its a massive failing of the club.

Once we're stuck with Donacien on a long contract, and had seen the opportunity to being in a top full-back in KVY, maybe letting him go was understandable - but the massive error was signing Donacien.

Didn't see that myself. He did O.K. coming forward against a thin defence, but made several mistakes defensively which weren't really exposed as such because, well, it's Town isn't it?
Donacien is not the best coming forward, but pretty solid as a defender - unnnecessarily held up as a poor player when the fee paid for him was not his fault.

To be fair on this one KVY is a far superior player. Of course we haven’t seen much of him but he’s far to good for L1.

The guy was treated horribly and i said so at the time He is much better than Donacien and Chambers at RB. Lambert put that loan James Bree in ahead of him then he was scapegoated in a cup game v Luton and was out the door. (like Chambers has never had a bad game at rb! but he still gets picked every week). Good luck to the lad, hope he gave Lambert the middle finger last night.

We do actually need more than one right back at the club.
We had Gwion Edwards line up in Emmanuel's position, 1 month and 18 days after Josh's contract was terminated.

Not many people were moaning when he left.

People were saying how he wasn't good enough so let's not go back with hindsight.

No1 tested him. He would have been the weak link I would have attacked. He can't have improved that much in a year. He got an easy night tonight.

He’s limited. It was the right decision. He’s never looked comfortable on the ball and is prone to too many lapses - those at Kenilworth Road last season can testify to that.

Classic case of assessing him based on one decent performance on TV.

He's been ever present for the team top of the league and their fans think he's excellent.

Sometimes players, especially younger ones, need to move to develop. He was pretty well out of the picture here when he left and there were very few grumbles about him going.

Fair enough. I think sending him to Rotherham for a year wasn't a bad shout to be fair, he was still young and raw back then and not ready to push on here. That loan spell worked well for him. Sending him to Shrewsbury the following year was what killed any chance of him making it here, he'd come back on a high and was bombed straight back out in favour of a League 2 right back in Donacien. That loan spell didn't go so well and it was clear then that he'd never make it here.

Looking at things from the other angle, three managers didn't think he was up to being a part of their squad here.

This is true, and as I've just said in another post it's not like fans were up in arms that we let him go. He hadn't really progressed brilliantly here.
