Luke Hyam 15:55 - Dec 11 with 7930 viewsbournemouthblue

What is he up to nowadays, surely a player like him would be an experienced pro who would do a job in our squad at this level and surely wouldn't cost a lot in wages?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Was one of those players who got better in the minds of some fans the longer he was out injured.

This. He was mostly injured, mostly awful and a walking yellow card.

Obviously we'd like him to get a club and work his way up but there is a reason he's not had much interest.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

So a slightly older version of a current defender who is currently injured and more likely to get a red
( who we actually paid money for ).

I should think there must be some out there on a free in January. The problem being we need someone who is very mobile as well as being a stopper. Not many of those going on a free most probably.

Not do they tend to play in League One

Hyam looked a promising player when he was young. But like so many, he sadly went backwards and became a liability when he wasn’t shining his rear on the treatment table. No, I very much doubt he could do a job here or at any other league one or two club.

He couldn’t do a great deal more than tackle and pass sideways.

Always wonder how well somebody like that has done out of football. Doubt he’s massively inclined to accept 100k a year to play lower leagues now.

I thought he might make a reasonable defensive midfielder in front of the back four, but it wasn’t to be.

Was good for the first few months of 14/15 prior to his injury before the Charlton game.

I agree, he started out looking very promising but I think the injury really messed him up and he never got back to his breakthrough form. Saying that, as already stated, he was hardly helped by more often than not playing in a horrifically out of balance midfield where Mick tried to turn him into a forward thinking player rather than letting him do what he was half decent at.

Downes is no doubt better (as long as he doesn’t return from injury struggling as Hyam did) but as cover to give us some bite in what is a very lightweight midfield there would be worse options if we could guarantee he would play at least at the standard he was at when he left us.

I doubt anyone other than a football club will pay Luke Hyam £100,000 a year. Given his injury record & the COVID impact, hard to see any club offering him much of a contract.

Indeed, I have to say, I had no idea he was such a controversial figure with fans

He was never spectacular but solid enough, perhaps his heart isn't in it any more

Trotter is now 32 & he's had a reasonably good career in the Football League.
If Luke Hyam hadn't been so unlucky with injuries, I think he'd have done the same.
Neither were quite at the level that we expected at Town at the time, but endlessly swapping players of not much more ability hasn't done us much good.

Why an earth would we want him back, to say he is average would be kind.

Leiston/Stowmarket is his level.

He played for us regularly in the Championship and did reasonably well all things considered and you cannot say that for many of our squad who looked like boys when we dropped from that league.

I am not saying we should resign him by any stretch but the idea that he was somehow worse than anyone currently playing for us is just not true. Hyam did his job far better in the Championship than Nolan has in League One for us, for example, and I don't see you advocating he should sign for Leiston!

He is 29. Has played 28 times since 2015 including just five times in the last eighteen months. If he is the answer then we may as well give up.

I'm not saying he would be a long term option but given our current injury crisis, we could do far worse.

Who knows, perhaps he's semi-retired any way, I don't know
