Interviewing a govt minister around the xmas rules
"The trouble is when you talk about maximum and minimum everyone watching this is going 'What do you want? What do you want us to do?"
What they want is firm leadership, not this wishy washy language which means 'Yeah, go and do it but yeah, don't do it'. It doesn't work, it just makes people confused, they are like 'Should we be doing it or not? How dangerous is it?'
They want the government to lead, in Germany and the Netherlands, they have led. They said 'We know you don't want to hear this but this is what's going to happen.'
Here it's like "Do it, but don't do it". It doesn't work it just causes confusion..."

But yes, that's the plan if allowed - means alot to mrs ulllaa and her mum.

Edit: re petrol, if I don;t drive at 90 all the way, its doable on one tank / £50-55

Not often one agrees with Piers Morgan but he's spot on about the messaging.
Germany and Holland are allowing mixing at Christmas whilst in their lockdowns but they have specified a maximum number of people as well as households.
It did feel from the statements yesterday that there could be an internal fight in the Tories over the next few days. Pretty sure some of them want Christmas called off and if Boris takes the hit then so be it.

If (as reported) the virus is now doubling every 5 days in London - the maths say we would have been looking at 8 times current rates by the end of xmas bubble period.
That is what drove the London T3 decision yesterday but that is completely inconsistent with then allowing a 5 day relaxation...

Boris may also be looking to get a Brexit deal through the House at the same time; that may be upsetting to some on the fringe so annoying them over isolation plans won’t be in his diary.
This all started when Johnson didn’t sack Cummings (or force him to resign) over the Barnard Castle incident. When an advisor could do what he wanted why shouldn’t anyone else? And I agree, the messaging is a mess - they’re more worried about saving money than anyone’s health. |  |

Not sure about them trying to save money. They are trying to save livelihoods, or think they are, but the pandemic is indicating that whatever they, or anyone does, it's like pissing in the wind. |  | | |
