Albums of the year 2020 20:33 - Dec 17 with 6938 views | Dubtractor | I know there a few new music heads on here, what are the albums that have grabbed you most this year? This is my top 20, not in merit order, and it took a while to narrow down to that few. If I had to pick one from this as number one it would be BC Camplight - Shortly After Take Off, a splendidly wonky indie pop. Great review of it here: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/apr/24/bc-camplight-shortly-after-takeoff All Them Witches - Nothing as the Ideal Arbouretum - Let It All In Bdrmm - Bedroom BC Camplight - Shortly After Takeoff Bonny Light Horseman - Bonny Light Horseman Car Seat Headrest - Making a Door Less Open Deeper - Auto Pain Disq - Collector Death Valley Girls - Under The Spell of Joy Frankie and the Witch Fingers - Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters Ghostlawns - Motorik KULK - Here Lies Kulk The Left Outsides - Are you Sure I Was There LA Witch - Play With Fire The Nude Party - Midnight Manor Rose City Band - Summerlong STRFKR - Future Past Life Widowspeak - Plum Working Men's Club - Working Men's Club Waxahatchee - Saint Cloud [Post edited 17 Dec 2020 21:34]

Cheers dubbers, I will give it a spin at some point. If I’d push one in your direction, prob the Cabaret Voltaire record.

Albums of the year 2020 on 09:30 - Dec 18 by bluewein | Hah. SLIFT and to a lesser extent, bdrmm. I probably would have caught up on the latter eventually but SLIFT would have definitely passed me by, so many kudos for the assist... |
You actually get a name check in this week's show for the Soft Blue Shimmer album, so the return recommendations are appreciated!

Albums of the year 2020 on 15:31 - Dec 18 with 1575 views | The_Flashing_Smile | I guess the fact that you're a DJ is how you come into contact with most of these, but how on earth do you have the time to listen to them all (repeatedly, presumably, in order to rate them as albums of the year)... bearing in mind, as well, that this is the shortlist!? Gonna do some painting in a bit so I'll have a listen to a few on Spotify while I do that. I've only listened to two full new albums this year, both pretty good; The Blinders - Fantasies of A Stay At Home Psychopath. Jim Bob - Pop Up Jim Bob.
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

I lead a very dull life and have lots of time on my hands! No, not really, but I do listen to music at every single available opportunity. It is pretty much what makes me tick, especially discovering new bands, and I'm very much an album listener rather than playlists. Hopefully there are a few in there that you'll like, though I'm sure a few you won't be so keen on!

Albums of the year 2020 on 00:13 - Dec 19 with 1448 views | Freddies_Ears | I'm with the Dylan contribution - it is excellent. But the progger in me has to nominate the brilliant "Auto Reconnaissance" by The Tangent.

That is a pretty solid list! I own quite a few of those, mostly just outside of my top 20. I love the Truckers one there, and the new one too, but they will always be measured against their amazing spell in the 00s, and also American Band. Compared to those incredible albums anything will pale a little.

I wish I had your Peel-like enthusiasm for keeping up with the new stuff, I went down the rabbit hole of delving through the archives a while back and never came back. I reckon half if not more of the music I've listened to this year was recorded before I was born.
