I know there a few new music heads on here, what are the albums that have grabbed you most this year? This is my top 20, not in merit order, and it took a while to narrow down to that few.

If I had to pick one from this as number one it would be BC Camplight - Shortly After Take Off, a splendidly wonky indie pop. Great review of it here:

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/apr/24/bc-camplight-shortly-after-takeoff

All Them Witches - Nothing as the Ideal
Arbouretum - Let It All In
Bdrmm - Bedroom

Bonny Light Horseman - Bonny Light Horseman
Car Seat Headrest - Making a Door Less Open
Deeper - Auto Pain
Disq - Collector
Death Valley Girls - Under The Spell of Joy
Frankie and the Witch Fingers - Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters
Ghostlawns - Motorik
KULK - Here Lies Kulk
The Left Outsides - Are you Sure I Was There
LA Witch - Play With Fire

Based on you having a taste for more electronic stuff, you might like the Ghostlawns album in my list mate.

Synth heavy motorik chuggers.

Cheers dubbers, I will give it a spin at some point.

If I’d push one in your direction, prob the Cabaret Voltaire record.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

Hah. SLIFT and to a lesser extent, bdrmm.

I probably would have caught up on the latter eventually but SLIFT would have definitely passed me by, so many kudos for the assist...

You actually get a name check in this week's show for the Soft Blue Shimmer album, so the return recommendations are appreciated!

I guess the fact that you're a DJ is how you come into contact with most of these, but how on earth do you have the time to listen to them all (repeatedly, presumably, in order to rate them as albums of the year)... bearing in mind, as well, that this is the shortlist!?

Gonna do some painting in a bit so I'll have a listen to a few on Spotify while I do that.

I've only listened to two full new albums this year, both pretty good;

The Blinders - Fantasies of A Stay At Home Psychopath.
Jim Bob - Pop Up Jim Bob.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I lead a very dull life and have lots of time on my hands!

No, not really, but I do listen to music at every single available opportunity. It is pretty much what makes me tick, especially discovering new bands, and I'm very much an album listener rather than playlists.

Hopefully there are a few in there that you'll like, though I'm sure a few you won't be so keen on!

I know most people aren't into the sort of music I listen to but for those who would like to try and dip their toes into the heavy metal/pop punk genres my top 10 albums of the year are:

Invent Animate - Greyview
Neck deep - All distortions are intentional
Bring me the horizon - Post Human: Survival Horror
Loathe - I let it in and it took everything
Dance Gavin Dance - Afterburner
The Ghost Inside - The Ghost Inside
Make them suffer - How to survive a funeral
Novelists - C'est La Vie
Bilmuri - Eggy Pocket
August Burns Red - Guardians

Also would highly recommend Spiritbox who haven't released a full album but have released several singles and are my artist of the year!

I'm with the Dylan contribution - it is excellent. But the progger in me has to nominate the brilliant "Auto Reconnaissance" by The Tangent.

I write for the Americana UK website and was fortunate enough to interview Patton Magee of the Nude Party earlier this year. Great fella, great band and an excellent album. Brilliant live too. My other albums of 2020 would include:

Brigid Mae Power - Head Above Water
This is the Kit - Off Off On
Courtney Marie Andrews - Old Flowers
Jess Williamson - Sorceress
Rolling Blackouts CF - Sideways to New Italy
Cornershop - England is a Garden
Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter
Bananagun -The True Story of Bananagun
Mapache - From Liberty Street
Rose City Band - Summerlong
Pottery - Bobby's Motel
The Beths - Jump Rope Gazers
Frazey Ford - U Kin B The Sun
Stick in the Wheel - Hold Fast
Drive-By Truckers - The Unravelling
Early James - Singing For My Supper
Dylan and Springsteen of course

That is a pretty solid list! I own quite a few of those, mostly just outside of my top 20.

I love the Truckers one there, and the new one too, but they will always be measured against their amazing spell in the 00s, and also American Band. Compared to those incredible albums anything will pale a little.

Here's my top 10 in no particular order:

Creeper - Sex, Death & The Infinite Void
Supersuckers - Play That Rock N’Roll
Ginger Wildheart - Headzapoppin
Corey Taylor - CMFT
Bring Me The Horizon - Post Human: Survival Horror
Gerry Cinnamon - The Bonny
Pearl Jam - Gigaton
Drive-by Truckers - The Unravelling
Enter Shikari — Nothing Is True And Everything Is Possible
Joe Bonamassa - Royal Tea

If I had to pick just one it would probably be a toss-up between Creeper and BMTH.

But I’m currently enjoying the new Avalanches album - We Will Always Love You.

I wish I had your Peel-like enthusiasm for keeping up with the new stuff, I went down the rabbit hole of delving through the archives a while back and never came back. I reckon half if not more of the music I've listened to this year was recorded before I was born.
