Blimey...that's a depressing top 5 list if that's the best we can do in 40 years!
Two aren't even out and out wingers, and the two Dutch guys whilst very exciting on their day were very hot and cold. |
Isn't part of it that we only had 2 outstanding teams in that 40 years and neither of them really played regularly with wingers? |  |

Yes I was thinking about when we had wingers that were actually wingers.
We have had some good ones but not many for a very long time.
Kevin O'Callaghan was ok but was a strange signing at the time because we signed him when we actually played without wingers. |

Yes I would certainly have Frank Brogan in the top five ITFC wingers that I have seen.
The five would certainly also include Clive Woods, Robertson and Stephenson.
The fifth one possibly Joe Broadfoot.
Charlie Woods was also good on his day, Mick Lambert of course as already mentioned.

If you took it back another 20 years the top places for us in terms of real wingers would go to Woods, Lambert, Robertson, Broadfoot and Stephenson (not including Leadbetter, as not really a winger).
Even allowing for current-day preferences, wingers have long been a dying breed, as far as Town are concerned anyway, but probably nationally too. I think the Archant list amply demonstrates this. |

If I was Paul Mason or Simon Milton I’d be suing for liable - Petta had about 15 good games for us - Clapham never played on the wing for a full season, Edwards ended up at full back to get a game, Reuser was never a certain starter
Milton and mason played in the prem and top end Div 1/champ teams for many years, scoring goals and showing plenty of skill

Micky Stockwell played right wing a fair bit as well, didn't he?
Also, Gwion Edwards has stood out this season in League One, does that make him better than any of the wingers we had 2002-2019 who had to play against better opposition? Paul Anderson never pulled up any trees, but was a mainstay of a top 6 Championship side. | |

If his criteria for the list was 'played wide a bit' then I'd have had Scowcroft and Walters in there long before Edwards.
