Well, if you go back to the 1930’s then yes. But what have they done in the last 50 yrs?

What have we done in the last 40?

You're claim is that we are bigger than them, and therefore a more attractive job, but its a pretty weak claim, especially when based on current merit.

I know, and I’m probably dining on crumbs! But for the sake of comparison they had two seasons on the prem since 1973. The first they stayed up on the last day, the 2nd they got relegated. Apart from the 2 seasons in the prem their crowds have been consistently lower than ours.

Since 1973 we played European football for 11 straight years, and were consistently one of the top clubs in the country and at times in Europe. Until 2 seasons ago we hadn’t been outside of the top 2 deviations for 50+ yrs. we’ve had England managers and England captains, and countless international players.

I honestly think all that warrants a claim to being a bigger club then them. And I’m still blinkered enough to think there is a kudos in managing Ipswich Town. Just think if you were the manager to restore their fortunes. I would think that our history since the 1970’s still makes us an attractive proposition to many aspiring managers.

Cowleys did Huddersfield, and a decent job - shouldn't have been canned. Paul Cook is getting interest from clubs above our own.

We're as good an option as anyone at the top of L1 - only Portsmouth, Sunderland and Hull arguably have more pulling power for a manager. I think Cook may be out of reach but there's no reason why the Cowleys won't come - you're right that they were unlucky to get sacked but he's not getting any Championship job except to fight fires at somewhere like Rotherham. Despite the fact we're a shambles at present, we have a clear target that involves more than just scrapping for 40/50 points a season.

Whilst I'm arguing the toss here, I don't disagree with your general point, which is that ITFC is still an attractive job and will appeal to a decent number of managers, despite the current megashambles that we find ourselves in.

And for all we moan about Evans, he’s a good chairman to work for as a manager and they all generally like working with him - you get a decent salary, little interference and more than a fair crack at it.

A better paid job though?

It's well known that PL is on a decent whack here - would a new manager be offered the same or more, with promotion bonuses?

Then, as others have mentioned, it's not going to be a 6-month deal, it will probably be a 2.5yr contract minimum (assuming it happens post-Crewe), plenty of time for a decent manager to get a tune out of a half-decent bunch of players, which will hopefully persuade some to stay-on into next season, assuming we are still L1, and within the bounds of the salary cap, of course.

As long as ME puts a relegation clause in any managers contract of course, just incase things 'start going all Lambert' again.

It’s a good gig at this level for the right manager.

He’s on good whack here Lambert, but still think it is below Championship average. Also don’t know if Evans will be paying same figure if he is making a pay off to Lambert.

2.5 half year deal would be about right, but if he holds on, I think it’s only a matter of time he gets a better deal in the Championship than we could offer.

Poll: Would love to know the opinions on here now of Lambert genuinely?

I don't disagree with you on many of the points you raised, but time is running out for Evans to seem like an appealing job. If Lambert finishes the year here we're going to be a pigs ear of a project to take on with all the contract juggling we have to do next season.

Also, the Cowleys won't be too far down on a number of shortlists - If the rumours are that true that they're interested the time is now - we can't be patient much longer.

Beg to differ - Huddersfield are not as big as us. Crowds consistently smaller than ours and have no history to speak of.

this notion that we are still considered anything in the footballing world must stop. we are a nothing club. 2 trophies in the 70/80's means absolutely nothing in todays market, im sorry to say
