Decent signings in the Evans era 10:10 - Feb 3 with 9096 views | hype313 | Reading that article about Lamberts signings got me thinking, who have we signed that has been a success in the Evans era? Waghorn, Murphy, Cresswell and Mings are the stand outs, but after that I'm struggling.

Well, this is an early contender for 'stupidest post of 2021'.

Must be a wind-up but I don’t actually think Mings is anywhere near as good as he and others, including Dean Smith and Gareth Southgate, think. I have seen his lack of defensive nous cost Villa a number of goals this season and I’ll never forgive him for the error at Carrow Road in the play-off game. But yes, he would be an improvement on what we currently have, although that’s not much of an endorsement.

So Mings isn't as good as his managers at club and international level think, he's only as good as 66notout off the internet thinks he is?

I can think of better International Premier League defenders. Not many but a few. And at the age of 27 he isn't likely to improve at all is he? Who would want anyone that good here anyway? Would get in the way of the development of McGuinness wouldn't they?

Not at all, only an opinion. You know, like what you never seem to tire of expressing. And believe it or not I occasionally agree with your views. And when I don’t I don’t go all sarcastic and spiteful.

Yes Jim signed him after we played Chester in the cup about a year before Evans took Town over.

*sigh* just shows how hard it is to find a positive under Evans lol It's quite telling that our best buys under Evans have been purchases from lower leagues / for an actual fee ...the very transfers we don't do much of. [Post edited 3 Feb 2021 17:38]

Decent signings in the Evans era on 18:55 - Feb 3 with 1909 views | istanblue | Loans: Celina, Fraser, Lawrence, Gio, Garbutt, Andrews, DJ Campbell, Bullard. Permanents: McGoldrick, Bart, Chambers, Berra, KVY?, + all the ones you mention. Always thought the likes of C. Edwards, Scotland and Garner were decent signings too. Generally speaking though we've bought in a hell of a lot more crap than good over the time Evans has been here.

Decent signings in the Evans era on 10:23 - Feb 3 by TractorJack | Webster |
Webster was an alright player for us, and we made a decent profit, but I don't know if his actual signing was that good in hindsight. We'd have been better off just keeping Matt Clarke and not spending £700,000. If the thread was 'decent players Evans signed' then he'd belong here, but given that we gave up Matt Clarke the signing itself wasn't that great.

Clarke was in the unfortunate position of being a left sided CB at a time where we had Berra and Smith already. Not sure how much game time he'd have got over the 2 years that Webster was here had we just kept him. I don't think there's much of an argument that Webster wasn't a good signing for us.

Mings was the best full back Ipswich have had while I've been watching (and that includes Aaron Cresswell), crazy good attacking ability. I haven't watched a hell of a lot of him since but they say he's an even better centre-half. That's one of the worst hot takes I've ever seen on here.
