I've seen a magnificently dreadful one on B this morning of Sir Tom and White Jesus applauding healthcare workers(in old-fashioned Nightingale style get up, naturally) from the pearly gates.

Might take five minutes off work this afternoon for a Captain Tom hand shandy in that case. We've all got to do our bit.

So a few years back, when visiting Lourdes as a good catholic boy, I recall the sale of snow globes of the virgin Mary. And nuns queuing up to briefly place them on the stone where she is supposed to have appeared.

Classy.

Can I suggest that everyone who is going to clap Sir Tom, first takes 5 minutes to watch the following in full. He achieved what Bruce Springsteen never managed and this should be remembered by getting to No.1 last year.

I thought Lourdes was one of the worst places I've ever been. Like a more tacky version of Blackpool, but with nuns and French people.

Isn't it just. Not sure what I was expecting, but it was the height of tackyness.

Have you ever been to Knock in Ireland? It is to Lourdes what Clacton is to Blackpool.

It's the footers' clan's neck of the woods and I can confirm this to be true. Grandad footers used to bring poitin back in little transparent Mary figures that were supposed to contain the holy water from Knock. Well, it sort of did in a way.
