Don't try and be a hero, without sounding too blunt (it's not the intention) you clearly need some help with this - just trying to dig in and sort it out by yourself is likely going to fail.
I understand the need to not want to take advantage of the school and things like that, but they are there to help kids that end up vulnerable because they can't/won't work in a home schooling environment
I hope you don't find that this post oversteps the mark, but these seem serious behavioural issues - there isn't going to be one solution that solves them and you guys need to take help where it is available as no easy answers. Sure you will be far from the only ones feeling the pinch in this pandemic as it will mess up lots of peoples heads in different ways - suffering in silence helps no one |

I think its all about power and control. As a rule, we're softly softly parents and don't boss him about. Perhaps that's the problem.
Without wanting to sound like a hippy, I think he's finding it uncomfortable being stuck indoors with us at just the moment that he wants to strike out and get more independence, which he would be doing if he was at school all day. |
Yes, it's hard on kids who suddenly don't see their friends or for younger ones who are missing out on social interaction with others kids for the first time and a year is so much longer for a child than for an adult.
I thought some more about this whilst I was out for a walk at lunch, you should definitely have a chat with his teacher. There might just be some guidance there that helps make some small adjustments that make things a little better quite quickly. |  |

There are times with mine when me and my missus talk and we realise we don't have a clue what we are doing - trying to limit screen use at the moment, when there is little else to do and we are bad for it!
Ultimately though, there are people who spend their lives working on this, investiagting behaviours and everything else - they are a resource which should be tapped into, but appreciate that some fear it.
School surely a good place to start, and you shouldn't apologise for sounding off - better out than in - as you realise not everyone else is doing ok either! |  |
