Any recent trips to the BSE recycling centre, facterz? Your tales from the tip never fail to inspire.

I was there only last Thursday before the weekly shopping collection from Waitrose. I was recycling bottles, tetrapaks, batteries, and Tassimo coffee podules.

I wish I could hibernate.

Today is a food aid operation day, so will be going to Brixton to stuff my car to its gills with food, and when I say stuff... The last bit involves dropping the rear passenger windows and filling every spare space with loaves of bread donated by Hovis. Then delivering it to the team in Kennington, who divide it up and distribute it to walk in clients (these are mainly illegals who won't give addresses).

I return after that operation, to collect 4 or 5 boxes of food to be delivered to shielders.

Usually get home between 21:00-22:00, not looking forward to that on icy roads. Thankfully most will be on bus routes so should be ok. There are hills to be negotiated, but nothing like Devonshire Road thankfully.

Last night had to take daughter's boyfriend home... He had travelled over on his bicycle, the combination of ice and wind proving very hazardous.

After a weekend of battling Ullaa jr's behaviour, we're tired. The swearing and spitting are getting a little wearing - the kicks and punches don't yet hurt, so less annoying.

We're stuck - we don't know whether to come down hard or go softly softly and having tried both, we're not much the wiser.

There was a glimmer yesterday though. After a particularly grim session of spitting in my face and calling me effing this and that (he's 7), I sent him to his room for two hours and he actually stayed, depsite much crying. It's almost like he wanted to be kept on a tighter leash.

Felt rough doing it and he cried loudly and long. Tbh, it's getting to the point where we're half expecting a knock on the door from the social - I wouldn't blame our neighbours if they did make a call, given what they must be hearing day in day out.

Anyway, maybe coming down on him harder and sooner may help. "Zero Tollerance" if you like... Can hardly believe that's where we are as parents, but its seems like the last place left.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

That sounds really rough for all concerned. Can't pretend to have any answers, just hope he can get back into school/a routine asap.

Your local school might be open to taking him for a few days if you explained the situation. Even if it was a couple of days a week might be beneficial for all.

Hard decision given the need to reduce contacts etc. but sometimes you need to put your own and your kids' welfare first. Might be worth asking the question?

Cheers mr. We are indeed getitng close to seeing if the school could help us out, but are holding off cos of the pandemic and not wanting to put upon the school. The weird thing is, he's absolutely petrified of us letting his teacher know there's a problem - he saves all of this stuff for us - to everyone else, he's a charming little lad. It would almost be like betraying or outing him, but if we can't get a home-solution that works, we may have to.

Anyway, sorry all - too personal probably, but just needed a little chance to let it out.

That's rough Ulls.

What sets him off, is it just wanting stuff you won't let him? Can you reason with him when he's not kicking off all over the place? Sounds like you and Mrs Ulla definitely need some other input to help you out (where you can be more open than you can on here about precise issues) but this year has been tough on most people so don't blame yourselves here.

Congrats to Hatch & sympathies to Ulla above!

Personally, getting fed up with life seeming to be no more than an endless succession of problems needing to be dealt with. Hey ho, many others are far worse off I know - massive sympathies to burnt out NHS & care staff, stressed out other keyworkers, and those cooped up in flats with kids & no outdoor space. Also those who've lost loved ones of course.

Meanwhile, heard a hugely useful & fascinating prog on BBC World Service this morning from 04.32-05.00 am, on how de-stressing & meditation is proving (following clinical study) to boost the immune system, esp against viruses, and particularly so if practiced just before and after Covid vaccination -

Sorry to hear that Ullaa.

Can't claim to know what it's like to parent a kid of 7 as my daughter is much younger, but the fear of letting his teacher know sounds encouraging to me. He certainly must know the difference between right and wrong, so it's in there somewhere. Perhaps he's just testing the boundaries as to what he can get away with and with whom.

Hope things improve for you soon.

Your teacher will also want what's best for your kid. They will be having to deal with the fall out soon enough.

And it might even be that a 10 minute zoom call once a week could be arranged? Covid secure too.

And if you don't speak to them, you'll never know. (That's my advice for what it's worth) You shouldn't feel guilty for asking / seeking help in times like these (or ever tbf). Am sure there will be many others in similar positions.

Good luck whatever you do.

Cheers mr and yes, I'd almost welcome a knock on the door right now - weird hey?

I think its all about power and control. As a rule, we're softly softly parents and don't boss him about. Perhaps that's the problem.

Without wanting to sound like a hippy, I think he's finding it uncomfortable being stuck indoors with us at just the moment that he wants to strike out and get more independence, which he would be doing if he was at school all day.
