Worst Ailments? 19:14 - Feb 8 with 2592 views | Coastalblue | I'm not talking about life threatening illness or anything, but I'm currently in the middle of some dental work having lost a fight with a metal strap that hit me in the mouth. Tonight I'm suffering from a bit of toothache that turned into a raging bull of pain as soon as I stepped out into the crisp air outside, meaning I've had to cty off work. Dentist trip in the morning I think. What's worse than toothache or ear ache? I find with pain in other parts of your body you can seperate yourself from it to some degree, but mouth and ears just seem to be all encompassing when they're hurting. So aside from a kick in the knackers, what's worse?

Worst Ailments? on 23:19 - Feb 8 with 1056 views | StokieBlue | Not painful but 20 years ago I had Bells Palsy and that wasn't nice. Not being able to move one side of your face for 6 or 8 weeks was horrible. SB [Post edited 8 Feb 2021 23:45]

Unless someone has had an attack they will not understand your post. A bad attack can be remarkably excruciating.

I had one, actually had a cardiac arrest, I cannot remember a thing about it or the day that preceded it. I apparently did a full day at work, ordered stuff from the wholesaler, phoned myself an ambulance, opened the front door, fed the cat and shut her in for when the paramedics arrived. I recall nothing, which actually I'm grateful for.

You had a cardiac arrest following an attack of gout? Or is there a misunderstanding? Either way, sounds dreadful. Glad you recovered and hope you're doing ok!

Haha, no, I misread your post, assumed you were talking about a heart attack rather than gout. Blame the tooth ache. I used to work with a guy that suffered with gout, sounded horrendous, he was a very fit 21 year old that played football 3 or 4 times a week, did kick boxing and was as far from the stereotypical gout sufferer as you can get. I'll admit, until then I thought it was something that afflicted old men that drunk lots of port.

That's because you were, thanks to your cardiac arrest, basically dead(it's slightly more technical than that, but not much). It's a pretty exclusive club in the UK. You are one of the slightly-less than 1 in 10 to survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest. Your story is why we need more defibs and more CPR training across the country. I really hope your ribs didn't hurt for too long afterwards. https://www.bhf.org.uk/what-we-do/policy-and-public-affairs/transforming-healthc https://www.resus.org.uk/sites/default/files/2020-05/OHCA_consensus_paper.pdf [Post edited 9 Feb 2021 0:58]

Worst Ailments? on 07:33 - Feb 9 with 948 views | Warkystache | Crohn's disease. Had it since I was a young kid, diagnosed at 14, six bowel ops and lost a lot of colon and ileum as a result. Imagine the worst stomach ache you've ever had, but this just keeps going on and on, in waves. Then the fistulas, and the massive weight loss and then not wanting to eat. The worst bit was, after surgery, I suffered from something called adhesions, which continue to affect me and cause periodic bouts of blockage. That and teeth abscesses. Once had a tooth abscess that drained into the roof of my mouth so I walked round looking like a turkey for a few days before my chinese dentist said "Aah toof abbess" and cut the offending tooth in half to drain it. THEN he root-canalled it.

Worst Ailments? on 07:50 - Feb 9 with 939 views | befxblue | I had both of my bottom wisdom teeth removed in the same sitting, and have been told since that the dentist shouldn't have done 2 at once, I guess he was paid per tooth. I thought I was ok until the anaesthetic wore off, then spent the next 2 weeks alternating constantly between paracetamol and ibuprofen at whatever 4 or 6 hour intervals came soonest. I couldn't eat solids properly for about 3 weeks, and lost a stone, but the most uncomfortable feeling was when foodstuff made its way into the holes vacated by the teeth as it took them forever to heal over. I was also reliably informed by a woman who had had one wisdom tooth removed that it was worse than childbirth.

Yeah, but I’m guessing you’ve never trodden on a Lego brick in bare feet then?

Worst Ailments? on 08:17 - Feb 9 with 924 views | Dubtractor | I'm sure it has already been mentioned, but chronic back pain is an utter disaster. I've had issues for about 5 or 6 years now, when it flares up it is just miserable.

Yes, I can imagine that anal teeth would be very painful, and to lose them both when sitting - made oi wince.

Look on the bright side... having spinach stuck between your teeth wouldn’t be the worst look...

Two removed?? Jeez... In the 90s I had one removed ‘in the chair’ under local anaesthetic. My dentist by the name of Soo (not the panda friend of Sooty, but of Chinese parentage with a touch of Ghengis Khan thrown in) at the time was expensive, very good but somewhat forceful. After giving me enough anaesthetic to numb a horse’s gob, she began medieval toolkit at the ready. The 45 minute extravaganza began by slicing the gum down to the jawbone both sides. The tooth was sawn vertically two ways all the way down. The black and decker came out and holes were drilled around the base of the tooth. The chunks of tooth were then wrenched out, piece by piece. Out came the sewing kit, a bit of mopping up and out I staggered out dribbling, looking like I’d had a good kicking at a Millwall game. Throughout the fun, soothing music was played, as she always did. Why?? She should have played Ride of the Valkyries. The intention was to go back to work. Since I couldn’t open my mouth and was still whimpering like the dastardly coward I am, I went home. 2 days of nosebag consisting of soup and ice cream, the bruising came through my face in spectacular fashion and a course of antibios to fight the inevitable infection followed. It took about a week to get back to normal on the fodder and beer front. All in all it was almost as miserable as watching the dross at Portman Road, but the thought of having two out in the chair? No thanks! [Post edited 9 Feb 2021 9:12]
