If you think back at the time we were going through a really poor run of form, so it came as a huge surprise he was rewarded with any type of contract, so a 5 year one came as a huge surprise, well to me it did. It was completely unwarranted regardless of Sunderland’s interest.

The problem was that the contract was basically agreed around October time when we were still top, but for various reasons it wasn't signed until the start of January. ME could have pulled out of course and he absolutely should have done, but had he done so I expect it would have made Lambert's position untenable and he'd have had to agree to pay him off. Obviously that's what he should have done but for whatever reason ME must have felt it was too soon to pull the trigger. And now here we are a year later in an even worse position.

That can't be right. No-one with any sense would give a demonstrable failure an exended five year contract. Those figures need to be double checked.

To me the most telling stat there is that only six of the managers have been in their current position longer than Lambert.

Shows what a good job he must be doing.

I think it is worth pointing out, for the sake of balance, that Lambert's stats in the OP include our games in the Championship under him. Not that it changes the fundamental argument that he's hopeless, but I suspect he'd be higher if based solely on League 1 games.

If I have this correct his win rat in league one is 26/63 = 41.3% , and in all competitions since we became a league one club 32/78 =41%.

I had to count them manually so there is a possibility of error, but it will be about 41% win rate since 3rd August 2019.

"“The coaching group led by the manager have done a fantastic job in turning a fragile environment - following last season’s relegation - into one where we have a mental expectation to win every game.

“The last few matches have seen results not go our way, however, we should not lose sight of the fact that we have lost only five games in the league in the first half of the season and are performing better at the halfway point than nearly every team that suffered relegation last year from any division.

“We have all seen many relegated teams pick up in a new season where they left off, losing games with nervous performances. This has not been the case at Ipswich.

“Paul has developed a strong squad and has been a catalyst in the club’s re-engagement with fans, including playing a role in helping to bring new supporters to Portman Road.

“I am therefore pleased to announce that Paul and I reached agreement last month to extend his current deal for an additional four years and we are now able to officially announce the new contract."

First time I had read that statement, and there appears to be a justification in the statement, that Evans had already realised that he had got it wrong.

Normally when you announce a signing or a contract, you just focus on the signing, not why you have given it.

I really think the financial impact of paying him off is being overplayed by the fan base.

My feel on it is that it’s more ME’s pride/ego which is slowing things down; which mirrors his ownership of the club - a desperate man in the casino just hoping that things go right and kidding himself that they will do

He’s playing on the dice and only needs to roll 3 or more on 2 dice and he keeps rolling snake eyes ( double 1’s ).

I’ve given up trying to understand it as it defies all logic now.

I look at that list and there is 4 or 5 managers I'd have in rather than the fool we have now, hell even Steve Evans is doing a better job than him at the moment and his comments in past matches now look to be much in his favour than Lamberts now.

Sheridan at Swindon is next to go, their fans are going nuts over the state of their club!

I was even asked to sign a petition yesterday to get him sacked by a Swindon mate.

RIP Sir Bobby
