I may be alone, but... 20:58 - Feb 17 with 2810 viewsMarshalls_Mullet

...I applaud Mr Drysdale for making a stand.

No person should have to put up with being spoken to like sh1te by players and managers.

Is is any wonder that a ref would snap one day?!

He should be punished, but well done that man for making a stand.

Perhaps that speaks to your own temperament.

Nope, I'm very much a lover not a hater.

I just have the ability to empathise with someone it that situation.

Sure, but if you watch the incident there's nothing in the challenge and Flynn hardly explodes at the ref afterwards either. The more I see it the more I think Downes is the victim of the ref losing his head, rather than Downes being the one losing his head.

That is certainly a possibility. The ref didn't seem to be particularly in control. I'd have thought Downes or the club would have mentioned it today if we thought we were in the right though. But who knows.

I wasn’t as close as you at the time, what exactly did Alan Judge say to him?

I honestly couldn't care less and the way the club has gone on about it is embarrassing.

how, exactly, have the club gone on about it?

As I understand, and I'm happy to be corrected here, the club haven't raised a complaint? Shambo has spoken to Keith Hackett, and not for the first time this season, but I don't believe that a complaint has been lodged formally.

The refs actions are pretty tame when you view the footage.

He doesn't need to, but how long could you put up with being spoken to like sh1te and abused.

Needs to be punished, but it's no wonder a ref would snap being treated like that in a work place.

Judge wouldn’t have said anything out of the ordinary and did stop in his tracks when pointing the finger. Drysdale then moved forward towards him.

In fairness Downes probably did swear at him, but then how often to players swear at refs and get no card at all? I think the ref was looking for it. I don't have an issue with the principle of sending players off for swearing at the ref but it should be consistent.

I appreciate it was probably the usual foul / abusive language.

Also, he didn't take a stand - he lost his sht and went head to head with a player, then grinned like a dck as he sent another one off.

That's not a stand, that's having lost control.

Now, if refs DID take a stand over that sort of behaviour, that would be worth applauding.

Happy to agree to differ.

No need to call him a dick either, you're not Alan judge! Lol

He rightly sent downes off.

For ease of reference;

"However, the situation has now been clarified and Downes was first booked for a foul, then shown a straight red card for offensive language to the official as he reacted to the caution, hence the two-match ban rather than the expected one."

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe the club is appealing the red?

How can they appeal it? You can only really appeal when the video evidence shows a clear and obvious error.

Come on Herb, you know full well he is guilty as charged.

No one at the club has disputed it, he hasnt disputed it.

Gritting one's teeth at someone while putting your head against theirs doesn't suggest you're in control of your emotions. He wasn't making a stand, he lost it.

Our manager has been on national media 3 times to complain about it. The club's twitter mentioned it multiple times.

The only person to behave with any dignity at all was Alan Judge.
