Sorry if this has been talked about elsewhere or is common knowledge, but does anyone know why Toto hasn't taken a knee the last couple of games? I know he was doing it earlier in the season.

Paz, I’m not defending you. You do come across as pretty insensitive quite often, and I can see why some would call it abusive. You don’t help yourself.

What I am saying is that is that just because someone doesn’t like you they cannot label whatever you say as offensive as Herbie does, 2x now in this thread.

That’s all. I’m out of this thread!

I know you’re not defending me.

Some people on here are so concerned with finding a stick to beat me with, any stick, that they don’t realise how ridiculous they sound.

Well, rather than use it as "a stick to beat you with" then, perhaps you could explain to me why you downvoted Spruce's comment "The UK really needs to invest more in education".

Because I can't think why that statement would incur a downvote from anyone, unless you have stupidly fat fingers like me, who did it accidentally when I went to look at the voting figures now, having upvoted it earlier! (sorry Spruce!)

Because he was, quite obviously, calling another poster stupid. I thought this was unnecessarily abrasive.

Err, no, he didn't - there's a big difference between saying people should be better educated (what he said), and that they're "stupid" (how you interpreted what he said).

Downvoting a fact just gives people another stick to beat you with Paz. As Vic said, you really don't help yourself.

It’s not a fact though. He was quite clearly talking down to someone and implying they are poorly educated. It was rude.

Fair point, even if the history is long and deep. Mind you, I’m not sure how much benefit of the doubt one individual can be given. Don’t know and I’m keeping out of it!

Everyone seems very tetchy these days. We need a summer of love or healing. I don’t know how they managed it in the 60s (drugs maybe), but something like that would sort us out.

I'm not sure what they expected the knee to do,?
It raised the issues of racism and many people have now found their voice to speak out about racism.

However players are still being racially abused on twitter etc.
But this is generally by the mindless minority.

Did they really think taking the knee would stop Internet trolls with fake accounts harassing players? What worries me more is the people that have been slating Martial and Rashford must actually be Manchester United fans as they seem to have problems with them after poor results and performances. I cant see how anybody can actually slate players because of the colour of their skin.
My issue is with any players poor ability to play football whatever race they are.

Not been on since you posted this. But I guess they hoped that by raising the issue social media platforms would actually deal with these "trolls"/racists and that the authorities generally would take a stronger stance when they are identified.

Just because you call them the "mindless minority" why should black people have to either put up with it or withdraw entirely from platforms that the rest of us don't even have to think twice about engaging on?

"Did they really think taking the knee would stop Internet trolls with fake accounts harassing players?" Perhaps they did! As I have already asked, what do you and those who oppose the mild gesture suggest they do instead? It is up to us to stand with those affected rather than bury our heads in the sand and say something akin to "it is unfortunate that some ignorant racists abuse you but that's life for those of you with black skin. We empathise but hard luck now be quiet and get on with it."

I am angry that social media and the Government are not doing more. It is clearly going to take more than a harmless gesture before football matches to motivate them. Again I ask, "what do you suggest?"

I must admit I don't know what they can do?

The government are powerless, wasnt one of them afound out to be a young Irish lad not even in our Country. Even the platform providers can do little, as soon as they are banned from a site they will just spring up again under a different user name.

Sadly this is the problem with social media.

Well, that says more about you.

The content and reason was explained clearly.

It was abuse. And you continued the abuse.

Social media could censor accounts far quicker than they do. They could pass details on to police and make it clearer the stances they will take. I would imagine the anti-racism laws in Ireland would be similar to here.

Ultimately everything that can be done to make life more difficult for these people to hide behind their internet persona the better.

Please do provide a quote from Nsiala to support your entirely false allegation.

The black players who have stopped doing this are doing so because it has changed nothing.

What do you suppose they do instead or do you support racism?
