The line that won me over... 19:37 - Mar 4 with 2154 viewswkj

"I didn't want to drop into League One, but the reality is Ipswich don't want to be in League One - so at the truth of it we can both help each other out"

Having a manager who has ambitions in line with our own is refreshing - even Mick felt like he was an inch above the clubs at time - but I have never wanted it to work out for a manager like I do Cook.

Although initially underwhelmed by the appointment I share your sentiment and hope this works out as we have had far too many false Dawns. Also as BBC Lancashire commentator said the other night this is a prime appointment for Cook at a massive club so he'll be desperate to get it right.

Note: I predict a board meltdown as Cole Skuse is back in training I'll bet he's in the squad Saturday. But consider one thing why have all the previous managers picked him?

Skuse is the perfect player to bring of if looking to see a game out. No nonsense. Just sit and tackle and pass it out. Nothing fancy.

I really have nothing bad to say on skuse - he's done the ugly boring stuff well for most of his time here.

Initial impression is really positive. I don’t get the feeling that he thinks we are lucky to have him at the club unlike a predecessor or two.

I like the way he got straight into it. Very committed and the type of person you’d want to do your best for. Interesting and quite refreshing. With Lambert, all this banging on about his own experience suggested weakness to me. Somebody you’d switch off from rather quickly.

He also talked about getting people to fit the way he wants to play. The big test will be the wheeling and dealing aspect, given he won’t have a pot to hiss in.

The size of the pot will depend on who the owner is, won’t it?

What I like so far is he doesnt really like using previous experiences for how to pre judge going forwards. So I dont think we will hear to much about previous clubs or experiences which is nice.
It's about the here and now.

Hes completely aware of how to keep fans inside. Not by tricks or free pints but by winning games.
Hes also not been afraid to tell fans straight away support the team when they play and do any moaning afterwards etc.

Of all managers since Burley and this includes Mick. Cook is the one I'm most excited about.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

The truth is that all the managers have picked him, and all the managers have failed to achieve anything.
I don't think he's a bad player, but we don't need him.

Correct. Nice bloke, but time to move on from Cole.

We have a big enough squad and good enough players to have a L1 playoff team at least. Let's see what Cook does with our existing team.

You're probably right but we will need someone to mop up the nasty stuff in the run in.

New managers will come in and talk the club up. What we need to worry about as fans is what is happening behind the scenes to enable success because I worry with Evans here we simply will tread water until we drop again.

And, might be over egging the omlette here, but he's the same age as me, so as a scouse he probably well remembers us as one of their main rivals back in the day, so knows what can be done here. Johnny Wark probably one of his heros!

I remember when we booed Wark after he left.

I enjoyed ‘you don’t have to play well every week to be a good player, you just have to want to play well’.

There’s a lot of truth in that statement.
