Cricket Day Two 05:09 - Mar 5 with 3078 viewsgainsboroughblue

Worth getting up for so far. India 41-3. Kohli out for a duck.

205 starting to look a better score.

Enjoyable session that. Not just because England have bowled well, but simply because after the farce of the last 2 tests it was nice to see some actual back and forth test cricket. That wicket before lunch is huge...

Edit:- Also, Jimmy with figures of 11.5-8-7-2. But green pitches and clouds or something...

Yes, Anderson was expensive this morning. Bought his wickets today. :-)

Now to get Rohit early after lunch...

5 down now, Rohit gone. Could get interesting but I think if they get a lead of 50+ we won't come back from that.

Stokes probably due something mad though.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Very much in the balance now. Need to get Pant out pretty sharpish but if we can do that then we're well in the game.

250 vs 200 at least makes it interesting. Assuming England manage to get through the first ten overs with the new ball.

Pants innings is now the key to the match. If he gets 80-100, we're in the poo.

6 down and 40 behind.... donr think we will will win but I do think England have done well In some challenging away conditions.

The pitches for 2nd and 3rd Test have been jokes and the ICC is utterly benign

Surely, any first innings lead for us makes it interesting. A 50-run one would put us firmly in the driving seat.

Oops, just realised we only got the 200, a fifty run lead for them was what you meant. Yes, that would make it interesting. Hopefully we can get them out for much less than that. Need a couple more wickets fairly quickly.

205 is a big score if Bess can stop bowling pies.

Its only a big score if England have a lead though isn't it, because we really only have a couple of batsmen who can really play spin and one of them is back in Blighty resting. So when we're all put for 120 in the 2nd innings I'd expect India to chase us down

Keaton Jennings seems to do well on the subcontinent, awful anywhere else but seem to recall he does play well against spin and might have been worth a shout but I guess given he would otherwise never make the team its better to try and expose some others to that.

Bowlers deserve real credit in this series as does Root who has had a stunning start to the year and I can't be too harsh on the batting line up given pitches (been the 1st test)

It was millimetres away from hitting rather than umpire's call. Looked plum to me at the time, think the umpire bottled it and that's now looking a big call in the context of this match. Probably the difference between a small lead for England and a lead for India.

Very annoying partnership this, we've gone very flat & seemingly going through the motions until the new ball.

Big partnership in a low scoring Test this one, quite possibly a match-winning one. England seem to have got their attack wrong for the second Test in a row, big shame Moeen was already going home before the last Two tests.

Quite telling too that where Joe Root has got big runs England have done well, the rest of the side just can't paly spin as well as him.

Tho it shouldn't be discounted how well Pant is batting. Superb innings, in the situation.

Match-winning partnership unless we have a couple of partnerships better in us.

Is Root trying to kill Stokes off? He looks totally wiped out. Maybe hindsight, but Woakes maybe should have come in instead of Bess. This partnership could be a game ender for us.

To be honest we look out of ideas already.

Poll: Who would you play at right centre back on Saturday?

This session has been abject from an England point of view. Pant is batting well but we're looking utterly toothless and out of ideas as an attack. Bess has been hopeless and we're clearly a seamer short. Bolstering the batting line up and then getting skittled for 200 isn't ideal either.

Pant goes to his ton with a six. That was a scenario you could almost put your mortgage on. What a player he is.
