Cyprus to welcome vaccinated tourists from U.K. from May 09:59 - Mar 5 with 5793 viewspointofblue

This may sound really selfish but here goes... the younger generation have been told to stay at home, having their employment statuses affected in the process, mainly to protect the elderly and vulnerable - quite rightly. Now they still have to stay at home whilst the elderly and vulnerable can travel on holiday.

This is why, IMO, vaccine passports should not be implemented until everyone has has the chance to have, depending on the research, one or two shots. Otherwise the younger generation - those at least risk from Covid-19, will just be dumped on again. How are they going to be happy to comply with stay at home whilst those who the rules have, again quite rightly, been protecting are allowed to regain a semblance of normality?

It’s just going to cause further generational tension.

I don't really agree with the attitude that if I can't do something nobody else should be able to either. I get that it's frustrating if we can't go on holiday until we've been vaccinated and for those of us in low risk groups we will be vaccinated last, but why would you want to carry on imposing restrictions on others just because you face them yourself? It's proper race to the bottom stuff. And practically speaking, if some people can start going away from June time then it means the travel industry can reopen sooner and it means that you're not going to have the whole of the UK trying to get away later in the year once everyone has had their vaccine. Spreading out demand seems pretty sensible.

If there are also significant restrictions on what people can do in the UK then that feels more harsh, but again I wouldn't want to see everyone be restricted and certain industries continuing to be shut down just because I personally have to wait another couple of months before I can do those things.

I get your point re spreading out demand and to be fair I hadn’t thought about that and could see how that could be a positive.
I’m genuinely not trying to be confrontational here just offering an alternative viewpoint. Just to extrapolate your not agreeing with the ‘if I can’t do something nobody else should be able to’ standpoint. You could take that further. Low risks groups would have been able to go out pretty safely throughout the pandemic. But they haven’t been able to because higher risks groups can’t. Yes, I know it was about spreading and that’s not a factor in the vaccinated people doing things non vaccinated people can’t debate but the point is I thought we were all in this together? Once virus in the community reaches a low level (like it pretty much is now) you could say only vulnerable people need to stay in, but you don’t for the same reasons vaccine passports shouldn’t be applied before everyone has access to a vaccine.

I'm in my early 30's but have travelled a lot. The thought of not being able to go away whilst a few silver foxes hit up Faliraki doesn't bother me. What does bother me is not being able to leave my house unless essential or watch my football team, or have a weekend in a pub in the Peak District.

We continue to live under penal restrictions, I think we need to walk before we can run. Enjoy the freedoms as they gradually return. The British obsession of going somewhere ridiculously hot and banal, the one time of year the UK is hot has always bamboozled me.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I think even if it is possible to go abroad this year I'll probably wait until next year. I love travelling but things are very uncertain still and there's plenty of lovely places to explore in the UK.

I already have Ben Nevis in the diary for early October. I couldn't think of somewhere more beautiful or appealing to have in the diary.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Indeed, I've already booked a lovely cottage on a lake in Shropshire for August. As others have said, I am very fortunate to be well travelled so waiting a bit longer is fine for me. I think there is going to be a lot of uncertainty around international travel:

- Quarantine on return depending on country to stop variants is a possibility
- Will other countries allow travel?
- Will travel insurance cover C19 if you are unlucky enough to get it after vaccination?

A lot of other countries are far behind the UK in vaccinations, whilst one might be protected in most cases there is still a chance of carrying the UK variant to other countries and I am sure some won't be happy about that.

We know that does occur as last September the vast majority of C19 cases in the UK were the variant imported from Spain over the summer holidays.

It's a non-story. Cyprus have also said they will allow non-vaccinated Brits. Only difference is, if you have had 2 x vaccines (+2 weeks), you won't need to test negative for Covid before travelling.

It is, yet another, stitch up for the youth of this country.

If the summer is here and vaccine passports become a thing and the elderly get to travel all summer whilst no one else allowed it is grossly unfair.

I have my jab tomorrow, not sure my wife will be happy if I swan off to cyprus....!

Heres a thought for you.

These objections are yet another stitch up of the elderly. The elderly who have paid for the education and health care of the youth of this country, who in turn have so far contributed zilch save for a sense of entitlement.

Clearly both your statement and the one above are twaddle. No one is helped by such an approach.

Just because someone else has something and you do not, it does not mean it is automatically unfair. What is fair is to make the vaccine available to everyone as soon as possible, using a risk based analysis to prioritise.

It might equally well be argued that the majority of older people have respected lockdown rules but many youngsters have not. They have held illegal house parties etc. resulting in additional spread and deaths.

Just settle for being happy that the end of lockdown is in sight for us all.

The US have announced they are allowing vaccinated people to met up indoors.

Very much a two-tier system although they are vaccinating at a very rapid rate now, about 100m people done over there now.

Also letting grandparents who are vaccinated have contact with their grandchildren.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over
