Treatment of Woolfenden 18:37 - Mar 9 with 3977 views | pointofblue | A bit random isn't it? First dropped out of the 18 by Gill (nominally Lambert), then returned for Saturday only to be absent again tonight. Yes, I know he's been struggling but he's been asked to be the senior centre back when he barely has the experience for that role. I'm sure he does have a future with us moving forward but when we have two number tens on the bench plus three wide players (as Jackson can play out there if urgent too) it seems odd to not even give him a place there.

Treatment of Woolfenden on 14:38 - Mar 13 by pointofblue | Although this may sound harsh I think they’ve worked through luck rather than judgement to date. Eventually their luck is going to run out. |
Could say the luck went against gillingham. But the both put in a great performance against lincoln toto with 2 goal saving clearances I like wolfy and definitely a ball playing CB. But hes weak in the air and this season hasn't been at all solid

I know I’m labouring the point but starting next to a 19 year old rather than an experienced partner will surely not have helped him on that score? [Post edited 13 Mar 2021 14:43]

Treatment of Woolfenden on 14:39 - Mar 13 by pointofblue | Have you heard anything about him wanting to leave, as per ChateauWines’ post, Phil? If so I can understand him being left out of the squad despite the benefits I think he could bring. |
No, he only signed a new contract until 2024 last summer. And I doubt he's made his mind up on the new manager this quickly. His chance will come again.

Probably and is something I've said in the past However. Cook is a manager I trust and if he doesnt include him there has to be a reason. Like matheson. People want him in. But apparently hes way off the pace in training etc. What we do know based on lancester is wolfy wont be forgotten about

Thanks Phil. I find it interesting that he was dropped under Gill (nominally Lambert) to start with and nothing has changed except for one brief subs bench appearance against Gillingham(?)

Treatment of Woolfenden on 17:33 - Mar 16 with 618 views | pointofblue | Looks very bad for him now - Downes missing from the match day 18 (presumably) and Woolfenden seemingly can’t get into the squad as he played for the U23s this afternoon.

Not really, better to play a match than trek up and down the country for maybe a place on the bench.

Maybe. I thought Cook would have wanted to include him just for the mental uplift of being part of the squad again.

Treatment of Woolfenden on 17:46 - Mar 16 with 585 views | MrTown | No real surprise, has been very poor when been involved. U23 football just keeps him ticking over. He’s not involved because he doesn’t deserve to be involved in performances, as McGuinness. Needs to try and work his way back in.

As had been said many a time, much of Woolfenden and McGuinness’ struggles this year have been down to being asked to play together - too young, too experienced and they deserved someone with a bit more knowledge and leadership to play besides them. I’m a bit more vocal about Woolfenden as he’s our player but McGuinness has been badly served by this too.

Not sure they’ve been badly served, they performed poorly, they are out of the side. It’s not bad treatment, it’s standard treatment. Now he has to work to get himself back in, and he will.

When I said badly served I meant pairing a 22 year old with a 19 year old in the centre of defence and expecting them to perform to the best of their abilities. It’s almost setting them up to fail and they’re both being punished for it now. I hope you’re right he’ll work himself back into the line up. I have less faith, though not 100% sure why - gut feeling is Cook’s already written him off.

Treatment of Woolfenden on 14:40 - Mar 13 by jayessess | Skuse's games at right back for us were ... not good. |
I can only think of one game he played at RB for us - Bristol Rovers last year. Admittedly, he wasn't great (Chambers or Woolfenden would have been better options), but seeing as it would just be if there was an injury, I think he is good enough. James Wilson can also play RB

Treatment of Woolfenden on 14:30 - Mar 13 by pointofblue | Not sure if Woolfenden has been any worse than one man mistake machine Nsiala? And as I said, our current back four has hardly looked assured over the past few games. |
Would that be the one man mistake Niall that has been part of a defense that’s kept multiple clean sheets? Just wondering!

It might sound harsh but we’ve kept clean sheets through accident rather than design. We are still giving teams chances though, going by Cook’s comments, he seems to be expecting it at the moment.

Treatment of Woolfenden on 19:42 - Mar 16 with 389 views | wkj | Both he and Lankester have proven they can play in the Championship, but a lot hinges around the players on the field with them. Skuse + Lankester together could prove to be the key to creating more chances.
