He's absolutely woeful, and the problem with not having a commanding keeper is it causes jitters/apprehension/nervousness in the defense, he's so flat footed is beyond comprehension. I keep seeing posts saying he's ok for League One, he clearly isn't.

I've seen some rank goalkeepers in my time here on 21:35 - Mar 17 with 1150 views | chrismakin | Upto the last handful of games I felt he was ample for this level. But I make it what 5 goals conceded where he hasnt even left the floor... not saying he would have saved all if he did dive. But he just seems to be unbalanced and surprised by the shots being made as he literally has just stood there. That header last night. If you're not getting anyone on your back post then you must make sure if anything ends up going that direction you are ready for it.. the header was power puff yet he was still rooted to spot.

I've seen some rank goalkeepers in my time here on 20:54 - Mar 17 by Keaneish | I don’t see anything wrong with Holy’s starting position there. The ball should never have been won or flicked on with three blue shirts towering over him. Exceptionally poor from Wilson. A deft flick in the corner and no matter your size, you’re not getting there. Other than a few of Holy’s kicks and his nonsense messing around with it in the area, I didn’t think he was that bad last night. We’ve had plenty worse. Will Norris for one... |
The op was right tbf the starting position is wrong Move over 3 ft. Hes covered the far post and has near post covered too.

Holy is no Tom Carson, if you want to recall a truly abject goalkeeper.
I've seen some rank goalkeepers in my time here on 02:40 - Mar 18 with 1081 views | Muncher | I’ve just looked back at a message I sent on whatsapp on 19 July 2019 which was the day of the open training session where I stood down next to the keepers’ session where I first saw him and after 20 minutes remarked that despite Bart’s pretty abject prior season Holy “wasn’t a patch on Bart in terms of the bread and butter stuff”. I think that sums up where we are as a club, that we have made very obvious downgrades in the technical standard of the playing staff to save a bit of money compared to where we used to be. Do that often enough and you end up with the squad which we now have. The only spark of quality that has come into the club in the last 3 years is KVY.

Move 3ft to his right and he risks getting done at his near post which would be criminal. There’s a lot being made about him “not getting off the floor”, and agreed, he’s not the most agile but he pulled off some excellent blocks and good saves to keep the score down. Our defending is more of a concern for me than Holy’s athleticism.

I've seen some rank goalkeepers in my time here on 08:04 - Mar 18 with 1009 views | Vic | Goals against aren’t our real problem though are they. Our big problem is the other end of the pitch. If we get that right Holy’s weaknesses will not be anywhere near as noticeable.

But you can see the rationale can’t you - buy cheaper, develop them and sell them on. The problem is that we haven’t coached them well and improved them as players. Hurst bought players in for a style but for whatever reason it was a disaster. He was replaced with Lambert who has to work with those lesser players but doesn’t have the ability to coach and develop them. The overall result is that we have a bunch of lower grade players who have not progressed. I agree with the comments about Jimmy Walker - lovely bloke to have aro7nd the place I’m sure, but he really doesn’t seem to have improved our keepers. I truly hope Paul Cook and his staff turn out to be decent coaches because as I seen it this really is our problem. We clearly have decent coaching in the younger age group because the yoof and under 23s or whatever it is consistently do OK, but none of those players continue the progress when they get into the 1st team squad. They all flatter to deceive, every single one. Personally I think the ability is there, but they need decent coaching in order to fulfill their potential.

Poor old ALB got a bad rap whilst he was here, but he did alright for us, especially as he was effectively an emergency stand-in keeper. When he was here we had quite a turnover of loan goalkeepers some of whom had big expectations, Stockdale was thought to be a future England keeper for instance, yet the truth is that during that period we did better with ALB between the sticks than any of the more highy regarded keepers. In fact, in the 38 league games he played for us we averaged 1.53 points a game, had that been over the course of a single season it would have had us around and about the play off place, this was at a time when we were regularly finishing lower mid table and occasionally flirted with relegation.

There's not a lot wrong with the position, I was more emphasising that when it went past him, it was probably only a yard or so away from him due to the angles. I think from the flick he also though it was going across goal rather than realising it was going in the far post.
I've seen some rank goalkeepers in my time here on 10:26 - Mar 18 with 923 views | SamWhiteUK | Tomas Holy keeps goal like I do when playing FIFA, and I don't really know the controls. Occasionally I make a worldie save, but a lot of the time I'm not in position and have trouble judging the flight of the ball.
