Now that California leaflet is, shall we say, a bit odd - to me, California is the grid bordered by Cauldwell Hall Road, Woodbridge Road, Lattice Avenue/Britannia Road, and Foxhall Road. (I always understood that with it being named California, that's why it had an American style street grid - albeit spoiled a bit now here and there by later built roads that go all over the shop - hello Churchill Avenue).
That map is bizarre though - stretches all the way down to Nacton Road - as the old racecourse basically stretched from Hatfield Road all the way down to Lindbergh Road, have always thought of the bits in between as the Racecourse estate. The map also shows Rose Hill as being part of California, whereas I thought it was an area in it's own right. And then look over to the east side of the map, mostly bordered by Britannia Road - any reason why Ernleigh Road juts out and is considered part of California and Halliwell, Newbury and Copleston Roads do not? Is this the council ward boundary or something?

I'd agree with you on California but it could well just be an electoral ward and how they are contrived.
I would have thought once you're the other side of Felixstowe Road, you have moved into a different territory more or less?
Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

I'd agree with that, it feels different south of Felixstowe Road, and also west of Cauldwell Hall Road. To me the houses in Marlborough Road and St John's seem quite a bit different than those in say, Kemball Street.

Forgot to say earlier when I mentioned it, the reason behind Ernleigh Road being named that is quite brilliant.
The bloke who built it was called Ernest Leigh. I think Halliwell was his wife's maiden name or something.
Although you still can't beat the little warren of streets that was in London between the Strand and the Embankment near Northumberland Avenue. The land was owned by George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham. So you have Buckingham Street, Villiers Street, George Court, and there was a Duke Street which is now John Adam Street.
But the best one? There was still a word left out of the owners title, so I give you "Of Alley". Honestly. It's now York Place WC2. Brilliant.
