Our Academy set up 19:23 - Apr 4 with 1115 views | chrismakin | It's not something mentioned alot. But does anyone know much about the sort of thought process and recruitment that goes on in our Academy. Its just over the years. We just seem to be bringing in the same type of small. Quite powderpuff players each year. There doesnt seem to be a Wickham, Rhodes,Scowcroft build of player coming in and our midfielders all seem to be the same sort of player too. I don't know much about academy football but do all the genuine 'strong' players bypass us at a younger age via the new cat system?

Should we be seeing him more than say someone like Drinan?

We have produced plenty of keepers. Doubt any club in the top four divisions has had more starts this season by products of their own academy.

Our Academy set up on 10:21 - Apr 5 with 752 views | No_Moore_Kieffer | Most academies, although admittedly I don't know if we fall into this bracket, will initially sign any young player that excels in one area even if they are bang average everywhere else. This could be someone exceptionally quick/strong/tall for their age, someone who will finish 9/10 chances they get put on a plate to them but aren't that good at anything else, someone who can time slide tackles perfectly but has no on the ball ability etc. The reason for this is that if they've got one outstanding attribute, the quality of the coaches will be able to, more often than not, develop the lesser attributes to a higher standard. With that, the hope is they can either develop a future first team player or make some money off loan fees/sales to clubs lower down the pyramid. I'm sure l'll get replies commenting that our coaches aren't of a high quality meaning that this doesn't apply to us, but if we are being totally honest, you don't get a career working in the football league pyramid if you aren't an excellent coach. Some will point to Lambert to counter this, but he earned his stripes earlier in his career, that he's not kept up with the modern methods isn't to say they weren't once effective.

We produced the current England goalkeeper, Nick Pope, a Suffolk lad. Of course someone decided he wasn't good enough and let him go. Maddening!

According to his wiki page he was from Soham, Cambridgeshire and he was an Ipswich season ticket holder. We released him at age 16 and he moved to Bury Town | | | | Login to get fewer ads
