Moaning about the people moaning about discrimination is an age old TWTD trope.
The original post was solid. Nobody sane disputes that.
What actually happened here is - the troll who has previous form for being an extreme apologist and supporter for those who use homophobic language pops up to stroke his chin and announce that he's Very Concerned about homophobic language. Nudge Nudge wink wink.
Several posters decide to straighten the record and remind people that the poster in question has history of winding people up in this area.
People complain about these people.

Context is key.
This post may be perfectly sensible but if you take the historical context that it's fine for Boris to say homophobic things as he's previously implied then it's no longer sensible and is in fact hugely hypocritical.

Just because it's obvious doesn't mean it should be accepted or welcomed. If people put half the effort into calling him out that they do into complaining about me, or footers or Jeera or one of the other guys trying to stand up for others on this thread then we might actually get somewhere. Even Phil has called him a troll recently for lawds sake!

Again I feel it’s worth saying that it’s not that it’s on this subject. Maybe I should have waited for another thread to say something (but footers post had me inclined). It’s on any subject. There’s some topics about stuff totally unrelated or inoffensive and as soon as he posts, all threads go the same way. If he’s a troll, he’s not going to carry on trolling if he gets no responds. And if he isn’t and is just not a nice person, that too will be seen. Arguing with him consistently gives him some form of victory.

I do however think it is necessary. I try an put myself in the position of someone who is reading this thread who is gay. Would they look at my posts and think I am bullying a fellow poster? Or would they think there is a group of posters who are committed to representing their right to equality.
I hope and believe that any gay person will look upon my posts and see that the Ipswich fanbase is welcoming, does not tolerate homophobic language and does not tolerate those that seek to blur the lines between language and the users of such language.
The same could equally be applied to race. Racism is some cities has gone up over 1000% in some cities against Asian people. My wife was recently called "Chinese" and laughed at in the street. I've had to support her through the pandemic as hate crime has gone up. Sometimes she reads social media a lot and has cried at the experiences other people have had. Being beaten up for looking a certain way, being called names for looking a certain way, knowing the only difference between her and the victims is when and where she has been at that moment in time.
What we write and what we choose to tolerate as a society has implications on a multitude of levels.
