Yes. But Edwards is obviously an exception. There is NO motivation for him to sign a contract if he is going to be sold on. He is out of contract. If he signed under those circumstances he'd be taking money out of his own pocket and limiting his options of a club to go to. If he doesn't sign he can move for free obviously enabling a wider pool of clubs to pick him up and also get a more handsome signing on fee. He and his agent would know this. The club would know this. If he is being offered a multiple year contract as the EADT says it can only be because the club and Cook want him to stay. [Post edited 26 May 2021 11:29]

It's a bizarre logic in Edwards' case though, why would he sign a contract under those circumstances. He can just keep the option on the table and talk to other clubs.

Yes, but one of the biggest failings we have had is an over inflated inadequate squad, so if we're just handing out contracts to guys that are not really Cook's cup of tea then it's a waste of time, or as I suspect it's a ruse to potentially sell on, but I'm sure other clubs will be ready to offer something better if they get a sniff they might have to pay for him. |

IMO Dobra's already at his level and is improving all the time. Age also makes him much more useful for squad/salary cap planning.
