Evans and Downes with Dozzell / Bishop ahead of them would be a decent set up at this level, although I can see someone being brought in to play the 10 role. Nolan as back up to Downes / evans. |  | | |

Where does the idea that Cook likes Nolan come from? I don't recall any particularly effusive praise and there was nothing to suggest he was excused from the "demolition man" chats. [Post edited 4 Jun 2021 11:04]

Would probably imagine Downes already has a move lined up and wouldn't be surprised to see Bishop move on and the kids at the bottom of the list likely to be loaned out. Who knows about Nolan, he's been injured. |  |

I think as individials he looks at want and desire over natural ability
What you do get with Nolan is the effort, the box to boxness runs. The goals he scores come from those late runs into the box etc.
He might not be a flair type player like bish, and doesn't have the killball of dozzell, but he maywell be one PC feels he could trust to go and do a certain job. I think that will be key for PC, not individual ability but trust, desire, fitness.
We'll see, I could see someone replacing him yes, but I wouldnt be surpised if we see him in a few pre season games to begin with | |

He was marked by some Wigan fans on socials as an ideal fit for Cook in one of the holding midfield roles - ‘double pivot’.
Him and Downes instantly strike me as the natural pairing, who will offer a bit of everything. Although still believe Downes will move in and a Connolly and/or Smallwood will come in. [Post edited 4 Jun 2021 11:38]

He has struggled since he first signed, I actually think it would be best for all parties if we parted ways, it just hasn't happened for him here and by all accounts, he's never really settled in the area. |  |

His defensive stats are the worst of the 4 (including Bishop even!). I don't see how that squares with him being an effort player.
You can't play as a centre midfielder if you only make 2 tackles every 3 games. You can't play as a 10 if you can't dribble and can't assist. He's a relatively decent finisher, but a peak of 9 goals in a season (3 in a season for us) isn't enough to carry him when he can't do anything else. [Post edited 4 Jun 2021 11:45]

I appreciate that, however the below was once said about Scholsey,
"He’s not the quickest, he doesn’t run the most, he never wins a header, he can’t tackle but he’s the best player"
Not saying he's the same level of course, but there may be something there PC see's in him that we as fans don't. if he doesn't then im sure he'll leave pretty sharpish.
Disclaimer, just to make clear I dont not think he is anywhere near a wold class midfielder. Just using it as an example that some of the things we see as fans isn't what some managers look for [Post edited 4 Jun 2021 11:58]
