"The 1 difference. He gets into goal scoring positions and puts them away"

Right. So worthy of inclusion and starting today then.
I've read some sh it on here today, but this one is up with the best of them.

Stirling is like Bennetts, except unlike Bennetts, he takes up good positions and puts them away, but he always cuts inside and has no left foot, but he gets in good positions and puts them away.

Its on a level with the "Southgate doesn't know what he's doing" post from earlier.

I've never understood why football fans do it, I can only assume they talk to their surgeon in the same manner. "You don't want to make the first incision there"

Problem is I've not said he shouldn't be included or starting. He will imo score more goals than kane this tournament.

He does however frustrate the fk out of me. That was all my op was. Hence why in it I said he was good and I said he would get us free kicks etc too.

You can dislike certain aspects of a persons game and why I called him a rich mans bennetts. He runs into players an awful lot like bennetts. Struggles with some simple aspects with the ball and turns into trouble alot.
However the reason he plays for man city. England and why I call him a rich mans version of bennetts is because he does the goalscoring ability and the intelligence to get into better positions.

People have a tendency to miss Sterling's strengths if you look at that goal he was behind Phillips when he went past that first player but Sterling had the vision to see the space and ran into that, that's his strength. A lot of people get frustrated that Sterling isn't bombing down the wing beating loads of defenders but Sterling has never been an out and out winger.

Yeah, he's no C. Ronaldo.🤦‍♂️

Only (luckily for him) a "richman's Bennetts". 🤦‍♂️🤷‍

That was a classy move for that goal.

The way he lined up with Philips for that was worth waiting the whole match to me.

Showed exactly why they are there.

Quite. Some people seem to want them to be able to do that every 2 minutes though.

Basically anyone who doesn't pat CM on the head for every single thought he puts on here is in the gang. Very boring, very tiring, very immature. Anyway, I'm out of this thread now. There's no legs in a post criticising England's potential match winner. Very silly.

lol you took me off ignore, then continue to not even discuss anything.

it's not about a pat on the head, all you did was downarrow the OP, then begin your usual personal abuse posts ( This is makin) without even providing any form of counter point to the OP unlike BB who did at least send across a counter point, same old sht from you and your pal Jeera, suprise surprise.

I've seen people questionning Walker, had he scored would all of his bad points be forgottten? no,

Sterling is a frustrating player regardless of his goalscoring contributions and not had the best of club seasons, which is why a large majority were shocked and annoyed he even started the game ( Which I wasn't btw, even though he frustrates me, I still see him as more important than Kane in this tournament, but doesn't mean I can't be honest and say he is incredibly frustrating to watch)

Did you see Sterling's reaction to the post-match interview question asking if he had justified his place in the team? Disgraceful question very much on a par with this thread really.

11 goals in his last 15 international appearances.

Exactly. It was a lazy, ignorant question. I felt sorry for him having to field it, and that he did so gracefully speaks volumes about his character.

Some players are just given allowances that others aren't. Some players are unfairly compared to others, when that comparison falls flat on its face with the slightest examination. He's one of them.

Sterling has always been treated harshly by some fans and especially by the media. It's fairly obvious why at this point.

To be fair, whilst some of the criticism is almost certainly rooted in his skin colour, he has also done some pretty silly things. However, he has earnt his place in the team. Compare the way Foden's silly actions get him compared with Gazza in a positive spin instead.

I may have missed it, but what's he done apart from get a tattoo of a gun and buy his mum a house while being black? I don't follow non-ITFC football as closely these days now I'm over here, but those seem to be the main criticisms of him I've seen?

I think there was a Covid regulations breach at a party for Ussain Bolt.

Nothing any more major than Maguire and Foden really but the stick Sterling gets is a different scale.

Indeed, The papers were quick to jump on his back for anything years ago. After the last euros it was something on the lines of "England flop shows off really expensive watch after humiliating europe exit". He also got an article dedicated to him because he shopped at a local supermarket or something.

Nice and contradicting, probably from the same publisher.

I can turn that right back at you and say that Sterling's performances are sometimes overly praised and illogically defended to the hilt when he's clearly not been great....it's fairly obvious why. I don't know why you need to turn this into anything other than a discussion of him as a footballer. He clearly can be frustrating, inconsistent and non productive, hence dropped down the pecking order for City and not used by Pep in many big games last season. He often loses possession through poor control and misplaced passing. His finishing for an England forward is very haphazard. Having said that, his pace is a useful weapon...yesterday he looked the sharpest forward in terms of runs although he stopped doing that in the second half. He scored one, but missed a pretty straightforward chance which would have killed the game. He played better than Foden ( who played on the wrong side to accomodate Sterling and whose game is not as effective on the right, like Rashford) but not as well as Phillips. For pure footballing reasons, I think there is reason to think England could be more effective with Sterling as an impact sub, and playing Grealish instead with Phillips and Bellingham deeper allowing Mount to be further forward. So I can absolutely agree with the original view that Sterling can be a frustrating player...

I know this comparison wasnt popular last week. But cane across this just now and my god it shows why I find Sterling a frustrating player( but one I appreciated also shows flashes of brilliance)
