From what he was telling me they were all extremely drunk and shouting, swearing etc He doesn't think this is a good example to be setting.. I for one don't care and think anyone out with their mates is exactly the same... interested to get people's thoughts on this?

I used to love East Ocean and went there regularly. Then got a Takeaway some time later, drove 12 miles home only to open it and find a used plaster in the food. Never went there again. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Woah, that's gross. I'd have reported that to the authorities with no mercy. A mate and I once walked into a takeaway in Bury just as they were closing, (also of the same name as it goes), but they were happy to serve us. Got the food home and every single dish tasted of detergent. I rang the owner and complained and he offered a discount for the next time I went in. A discount for an entire meal that had gone in the bin. I went in there a few days later and ordered what I wanted and walked out with a bag full without paying. Cheeky sod. He could've poisoned me and wanted to offer a discount.

It's probably a good thing we don't really know what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to the preparation of food. I'd probably never eat out again as I'm so fussy.

Know what you mean and have hardly eaten out for quite some time now, despite the latest obvious reasons. As for takeaways, I am getting older so don't encounter them as much and again, with age you tend to want more than just some old rubbish you could do better yourself. Saying that, I did buy a McDonalds some weeks ago. I don't know why I did it and was ashamed afterwards. However, I'm going to guess that most of those are more hygienic than some of the places we've been discussing.

To be fair, I was going back a number of years when I referred to the 'plaster incident'. Hopefully things are more stringent now. I agree with you, would rather cook for myself now and probably have about one takeaway a year. I have never actually had anything from McDonalds!

I did a first aid course with a bloke who was a McDonalds Manager some years ago. Over the weer he told me how it all worked. The hygiene standards (15 years ago) were pretty phenomenal which to be honest, really surprised me. I’m not a huge fan of it, but there are times when it has its place. For example a double sausage McMuffin, no egg, before Remembrance Sunday when nowhere else is open is a thing of pure joy and all that lips and trash sustains you all the way through to the pub at 1pm. As for restaurants in general, I try not to think about behind the scenes. But if I hear, see or suspect something I never go again. I’m easily put off!

Paul Cook and Staff in Trongs last night on 12:42 - Jun 17 by itfcjoe | All I did was state my opinion to the question asked by the OP - if they are loud and f'ing and blinding in a restaurant I don't think it's great personally. Hardly that controversial surely? We've all been on both sides of that surely - the nobs making the noise and the people trying to have a quiet night getting annoyed by it. |
What amazes me is you're still entertaining the possibility that there's any truth in this. Busy public place like that and not a single mention of it on social media, let alone a photo. All the 'evidence' is this one post on TWTD, from someone with no posting history...

Trongs restaurant has about 4 tables in at the best of times before social distancing so not sure on a midweek night in a lockdown there would be loads there. I've not once commented as to whether I believe it or not, I just literally answered the OPs question, and then said that is why senior figures at the club don't tend to socialise in Ipswich mainly

I've done a lot of work for a guy who had a number of franchises, and the standards are very high. He said it was interesting that his daughters ended up working at a couple of top end restaurants locally and that they were nothing like what hey had to do or be fined by McDs, and have franchises potentially taken away etc. Even down to Working Time Directives and things like that, says very few restaurants follow those rules even for waiting staff etc where they are totally by the book on everything.

Fair enough, I've never been. But a restaurant to have 4 tables max barely sounds like a restaurant to me! My point about the OP having no posting history still stands. You don't need to literally comment on whether you believe it or not, the tone of your posting suggests you do and are quite happy to have another stick to beat Cook with <if it happened> To me, and I respect your footballing comments generally and think you're very good on BM, but I get the impression you've been a bit bitter since Cook came in rather than the Cowleys, who were both our first choices. Your comments are valid of course - some of it could've been done better. But the constant knocking of a manager who's barely had time to train what he has, let alone get in players he wants, is what I find at odds with your normal level-headed views. I just thing it's too early to have a strong opinion on what he's doing.

My sisters father in law used to work for Customs and Excise and in the early 90's, one particular time he did a 6 month stint with environmental health and had to go to hundreds of restaurants and take-away's along the south coast, he hasn't touched a Chinese or Indian take away since, before all that he said he used to get at least 2 a week....

I honestly think I'm pretty fair to Cook, and pretty balanced, but it seems anything negative about him I say is jumped upon. I think he's a really good manager, I think the club is in a very good place, I'm really looking forward to the new season and can't wait to be back and see a Paul Cook team. On the flip side I think he got a lot wrong in the little time he had, and I'm not convinced the approach to contracts makes sense. But if anyone offered me Paul Cook and new owners at any point last season I would have bitten their hand off and that is my overarching view of it all. I think Steve_M summed it up well in a couple of posts on the other thread. The only thing I come back to, is that if Cook hadn't done such a bad job results wise last year and snuck us into POs, then Evans may not have sold up and we'd be in a far worse position - everything that has happened has happened for a reason and it leaves us in the best place we have been in a long time. I think the key for how balanced and level headed people are will be if results go badly at the start of the season - I wouldn't be surprised to see those who think he can do no wrong being the first to turn!

I'm not sure you have been balanced, you've definitely been veering to the negative side IMO. This thread is proof of that. Normally a rumour like this, from one poster with no posting history, and not substantiated by anyone else on here, or on twitter etc, you'd dismiss. As others have said, you say the occasional nice thing as you have here, but there's always a 'but'... and makes you look like you're just paying lip service in order to look balanced. Anyway, time will tell. I certainly won't be turning on Cook quickly after a few bad results. I've always given mangers plenty of time, some might say too much on occasion...

I think I'm pretty consistent in things like this, maybe just naturally more on the negative side of things - I feel like I've stayed still but the board has changed.....! I can't see I was level headed or balanced about Lambert, I couldn't stick thr bloke for over a year before he went and made no secret of that!

Does it matter if Joe isn't overly keen on Cook though (not saying he is) but given we have all collectively been guilty at gushing at how fantastic it was to have Hurst and the whole 'new era' show, how refreshing it was when Lambert came in and Evans puts his hands in his pocket so we should be grateful mantra. Maybe it's ok to have reservations no? To see what he actually does with his squad, what the new owners do in time. I happen to think that Guardiola would have struggled to get a tune out of that squad last season, they were mentally done, checked out so Cook was on a hiding to nothing in all honestly. I'm over the moon that we have a new structure in place, can see it only making us successful, but nothing is guaranteed in life, we need to see how this goes in the coming months and year before we can all really pass judgement. Sometimes, following blind faith in the past hasn't been the panacea we had all hoped...
