I don’t understand it, people are saying he shows fight that others don’t, didn’t see any fight, professionalism or quality last season.

Sadly, I think you are correct. These players have had it far too easy for so long. Some may not realise the challenge of actually having to fight for a first am place , with better players in the squad, ….not so “ dead cert” on the team sheet anymore is it!

We don’t need players who want the easy life ….those days are gone thankfully, but they underline why this club has fallen so far IMHO. I shall never forget Didsy’s interview at Sheffield Utd, referring to the no pressure or expectations placed on players at Town.

I’m loving the fac5 that Cook is calling them out. It’s been long overdue , and it’s refreshing . I have real hopes for us now, but am also realistic not to expect anything this season, ( Much as I’d like it to happen).

Not sure I follow the logic here. It's League 1, we have a big budget, the rest of the division are half our size in terms of fanbase. Wouldn't "not expecting anything this season" be the absolute definition of what you're complaining about in your 2nd paragraph?

Well, quite. We had a squad good enough to be promoted in each of the least two seasons and feel well short. The same expectation is there for next season, it might not happen but promotion is the only target here.

I agree with promotion being the target and I agree with you Steve in your other post that not all the players last year are necessarily poor footballers.

I have to disagree that the squad was good enough to be promoted in each of the last two seasons though. In my view it wasn’t and the final table reflected were we belonged. As soon as the other teams got up to pace/started to gel, we started getting beaten home and away. We were well short in attitude, fitness and ability in some areas of the team and in all areas off it.

It is pretty disgraceful that we were going into games against the likes of Peterborough knowing we stood no chance. It was depressing knowing that if clubs like Wimbledon, Northampton and Crewe played with heart and togetherness, we’d struggle.

My concern around binning the younger players was how much have they as individuals been diminished by the state of the club, poor medical care and senior pro inadequacy. That’s why I’m particularly pleased to see Dobra retained.

He wants to go so there really is no argument.

This. If he wanted to stay then fine, he’d be well worth keeping. Decent player with potential to play at a higher level, which is also exactly the type of player we should be targeting to bring in. But if his head has been turned and he doesn’t want to buy in to the project then he can go.

We certainly were in 19-20, we were top six weeks before the season ended. Had Lambert not made around with the team and his constant changes it might have been enough.

It’s more ambiguous last season I word agree but with a manager who wanted to be there all season it would have been a great deal better than it was.

And on your last paragraph definitely, one thing to let the senior players leave but not sure everyone else does too.

getting into the team has been easy for him since he has been at the club, because there was no one keeping him out if fit.
Now there are players ahead of him, it will be interesting to see if he can get ahead of them , ( if he stays )

Big fan boy here, I’ll be sad to see him leave. Hope his current status is PC trying to motivate, not down to assessment of ability.

FD was coming back from injury last season so not the ideal barometer.

But when he came back the midfield had bite, could stop the other team playing, used the ball and had attacking intent. He was head and shoulders above anyone else. I wear blue tinted specs to every game.

Flynn Downes has turned into a fantastic all round footballer, better than I expected when watching his hot headed early games. He can be the new Geraint if we give him a chance. Maybe even Wark if he does some shooting practise.

Couldn't agree more. All the problems with Downes are in his head. Does he want to be here? Is he fit, or making the required effort to get fit? Does he realise that 1 good season doesn't mean he's "made it", and good players have to work hard every season?

He has all the ability and attributes to be a good player. But he needs to grow up a bit and show the same kind of attitude as Dobra. I hope he does, but I have my doubts. If he doesn't, he's no good to us and needs a fresh start elsewhere.

I hate to break this to you, but every single player at the club would leave if they got a better offer.

Hell of a Summer to be talking about loyalty too, when we've ruthlessly culled most of the squad!

Attitude and fitness are systemic issues caused by poor management though. I completely agree with Steve M, the squad we had over the last two seasons was easily good enough to get out of this league but it was incompetent management that had led to the complete overhaul required to get up-to-speed as quick as possible.

His game is tackling and fighting but that doesn't make him committed. I loved him until i watched him against northampton at home.

I would say he was the best of a bad bunch.....at a push.
