I don't think anybody is taking offence at you referring to her as a woman. It was the use of "this woman" in the context of your negative post. It is very easy to interpret your phrasing to be derogatory.

Jesus wept, I was just making a quick comment about a commentator. I didn't think I'd need to spend time looking up their name, just as I wouldn't have if it was a male commentator I didn't know the name of.
The righteous indignation over a throwaway comment that was nothing to do with gender is quite astonishing in this thread, and I like to feel like I'm a fairly modern/woke kind of guy, sorry 'person'. |

Your "quick comment" isn't happening in a societal vacuum though, is it? Women, especially in football, get disproportionate grief about the acceptability of their tone, accent and much more besides. There's no righteous indignation here, just some acknowledgement of context. |  |

Your "quick comment" isn't happening in a societal vacuum though, is it? Women, especially in football, get disproportionate grief about the acceptability of their tone, accent and much more besides. There's no righteous indignation here, just some acknowledgement of context. |
It's very good to see things have moved on on this forum, tho given some of the unprovoked vitriolic abuse (mostly not sexist, but including some outright sexual harrassment from a couple of individuals) I've had on here in the past, I have to say that for me personally "this woman" would barely register as '1' on a scale of 1-100 where 100 is the worst!
Having said that, there is of course the potential of "little acorns" - it's always good to have and show respect from the outset 👠[Post edited 29 Jun 2021 13:44]

I appreciate you, as a woman, saying "this woman" barely registers on the offensive scale. It certainly wasn't meant as offensive, and it's interesting that it's men on this thread who are getting offended on behalf of women.
It was literally a descriptor and I'm amazed at the direction this thread has gone. I think if some took a step back, took my comment literally for what it was, they can easily see how I wasn't being sexist or misogynistic. Makes me laugh that I'm accused of being argumentative on here when on this thread it's others trying to start an argument out of what I think is a very innocuous phrase. It's also funny that if was all about what the male commentator had said, most of this thread wouldn't have happened.
