Why can't this woman say Azpilicueta?! on 18:29 - Jun 28 by The_Flashing_Smile
Yeah I think you're right. Probably correct if you're Spanish, which she isn't.
I also hate people who say "chorITHo" when they aren't Spanish. No-one's impressed.
I remember a mate of mine has been on holiday to Kenya and thereafter insisted on pronouncing it Kinya as though he had become localised after 3 weeks.
I did think think feck me if he ever goes to France will he ever say France again or will it be "Fronce" or Spain España?
I would imagine Emma Hayes is pronouncing it correctly, having studied alongside him and knowing him well. She also seems to have a lot more knowledge and insight than most of the other analysts so no complaints from me.

I think she speaks Spanish too, so I'll defer to her on pronouncing Spanish names.
As an aside I think she's far and away the most insightful commentator at the whole tournament. Really enjoy whenever she's on.

Yes. She is friends with him. I assume she knows. Nothing to see here.
“This women” is very disrespectful too.

One of the best managers in football for either gender. She's tactically so aware - would not be surprised if she is the first female manager in men's football.

Why is "this woman" disrespectful? I didn't know her name, what do you expect me to call her?
How about "this commentator" - why is/was her gender relevant?
I'm sure you'll try to wiggle and do some massive whataboutery in that you weren't using the fact she was female to be derogatory but merely using it to describe who you were talking about but pretty much everyone else on here will see it for what it appears to be.
Now would be a really good time just to hold your hands up and just say, yeah, probably shouldn't have phrased it that way but you stand by your actual point (which is also flawed btw) that you found the pronunciation annoying (even if it was actually potentially correct), but you won't do that - you'll double down, dig in and drag on the argument to try and save face while actually doing the opposite.

Yeah I thought her tactical insights were terrific, really simple to understand and ultimately the issue she pointed out with Croatia's set up did lead to their downfall.

I think Emma Hayes has been a breath of fresh air. Her voice may not be everyone's cup of tea but what she says as a co-commentator is so insightful. Actually comments on the game, gives tactical insight, and her professional opinion rather than some of the nonsense, waffle and anecdotes some co-comms come out with.
And as for mocking her pronunciation of a player's name when she is actually the one getting it correct is daft. You would think the manger of Chelsea women's team is more likely to get the pronunciation of a fellow Chelsea player correct than bloke on a message board...and if you research his name, so it has proved!

You’re oddly keen on digging at her over this - when you must do the same all the time! The fact that she just knows this one is correct when you didn’t doesn’t make it wrong.
Looks like she’s got this one right - so props to her for the knowledge right?

I'm not just going to accept what you say I should, no. There were two commentators, one was a man the other a woman. If I said "this commentator" it wouldn't distinguish between them. Simple as that. But you're desperately trying to make this something it isn't so you can get on a high horse and wag a finger.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Absolute rubbish - not sure if you even believe that in your own mind but you aren't going to convince anyone else.
Just own (for once) something that you could have phrased more appropriately.

Hmm, I can see his point. A respectful way to phrase it would have been "the female commentator" or something along those lines. "This Woman" certainly made me feel that her gender was a big part of your discontent.
I must also agree with many of the other commentators. Emma Hayes has been a decent co-commentator but her accent does rather grate on me.
Also, her pronunciation of Azpilicueta was correct. We have just got very used to people pronouncing it incorrectly.

I'm definitely all for people's names being pronounced correctly. But Spanish names are consistently pronounced wrongly and not picked up on - for a common Spanish name it's 'Rodrigueth'

I'm pretty sure I'd have been jumped on for saying "the female commentator" as well.
