One thing I will never understand… 22:47 - Jul 6 with 2996 viewsMattinLondon

…is why some people look through their mobiles for special events such as the penalty shootout tonight.

Not limited to football as I’ve seen it at gigs etc. Don’t know why people don’t enjoy the moment rather than filming it like a third rate cameraman.

Not really the same is it tho, like I said, each to there own.. but I can understand why people do it.

'each to there own' - excellent, a Vicki Sparks rabona...

I think that’s one of the main reasons I loved the Germany game so much (along with the result blah blah). The absolute mayhem that followed both goals in the grounds, no phones, no selfies just a couple of minutes of pure mayhem. Second goal I ended up 4 rows down celebrating wildly with a couple of ransoms and I still have a massive bruise across my chest from where I slipped and fell onto a chair celebrating Muller’s miss.

Last Tuesday was as close to the good old days you will get, hopefully it will be repeated a couple more times over the next 5 days.

the ones that get me , are people who looked crest fallen when the other team scores but jump up and down and wave theirs arms when they see themselves on the giant screen in the ground

There was plenty of that last night. I guess they get it from the players. One minute screaming and rolling around on the floor, like someone has seriously done them, then when the ref gives nothing, jump up and running like nothing happened. Crazy.

or those at football matches that spend the entire match betting on their phone.

I would imagine that those who do this, no matter how much they protest otherwise, have a bit of a problem.

On the subject of phones at gigs, whilst I absolutely loathe people who film the whole thing rather than just ruddy watch, I will admit to taking a couple of photos and maybe a 20sec video at every gig I go to, it's just nice flicking through at a later date and helps to preserve the memory I find.

I'd rather have actual memories over 'capturing the moment'.

Exactly. And the folly of it can also be highlighted when a) the technology later proves to have failed and b) the ex took all the photos of trips abroad & then died a year after the degree absolute came through, with his mum following him shortly afterwards. I still have some good memories of reef dives we did in Cozumel & Italy, plus Arizona, New Mexico, the Great Divide & Peterbilt trucks tho!

That’s Social media.. not the phone or camera tbf..

I think it's a bit of both actually. Some people cannot resist the urge to constantly capture images even if they're not going to post it on social media. It's a FOMO type thing, which wasn't so easy (cheap) to get caught up in before digital photography. Then there's the mind-numbingly stupid 'games' that people get addicted to.

They want the "i'm here and want to prove it with a video from my restricted view" haha

Not something I do personally but maybe some people want to "capture the moment" I prefer pictures of the people I go with etc as memories.
