The 2014/2015 season aside.. 20:41 - Jul 29 with 2730 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

I can’t remember being this excited about things as an Ipswich supporter.

We’ve hit the jackpot with these Gamechanger, Ashton, Cook etc I think.

Roll on 7th August!

Poll: Would you take a draw tonight if offered right now?

Not you but many, many fans were as positive at the start of 2018-19. Indeed they stayed positive long after it was clear Hurst was out of his depth.

I’m not convinced by Cook still, he made far too hard with of last season and just blaming the players is a little reductionist. I think you’re right in the ownership though, we seem to have lucked out a bit there.

Yep, looking forward to the start of the season. Not just for the football but catching up with all the people I’ve not seen for 18 months. See you in the 7th.

Ah, you're one of those fans that want to know what the plan is when fans turn

The guy literally explains the problems he had, Wolfy even explained recently what problems we had, yet you're still unable to move away from it's PC's fault.

incredible.

Also, Hurst lost 42 goals and brought in league 1 and 2 erm 'players' not many were excited going into the season tbh.

To be fair there was a massive buzz before that season kicked off

A new young, up and coming manager and lower league players with massive potential that a lot of fans had called for for years!

Agree on the Cook part, people still letting the players off the hook massively.

I was somewhat excited back in 2018/2019 for a little bit but when we sold Waggy without a ball being kicked and replaced him with Harrison and Jackson.. I was grounded pretty quickly. Unfortunately as much as I love going to the footy, my displeasure at Evans always meant I knew deep down we would never reach the premier league.

Compare that to now.. I genuinely believe in 5 years time we will be in the premier league. I know that’s a big shout but I just think this is totally different. We are a professional club now. Amateur hour stuff like the shoddy state of the stadium has been replaced with classy touches and additions like the mural on the Cobbold stand.

With Cook, I think he made some mistakes last season. There were clearly some poor results in there and excusing them with ‘it’s a free hit season’ would be silly. But on the whole, the stuff this summer with the clear out and the decision to bring in almost a whole new team.. that gives me enough reason to let some of last years results under him slide.

Same here. It’ll be nice to see the regular faces over the last 7/8 years as well as the footy. Not long now! Roll on Morecambe (and Burton away the week after).

If there was fair enough, I hated it personally, really wanted Ross, although no idea how that would have gone now either lol.

But you could also say that in that summer we’d also lost our four top scorers as well as selling the most goals/assists player in the league in Waggy. Optimism by the game on the first day of the season was definitely tainted with some worried faces I think.

It's ok to not be convinced based on the end of last season.

It's ok to disagree.

I'm excited the see what unfolds, but I have no problem with people who have doubts.

It's all cool.

Many fans were very excited when Keane joined. Many fans were very excited when we were equals with Norwich City and played them in the playoffs under Mick - just two games away from the Premier League.

The majority of us are very excited right now, and it could be the start of building something really great. However, let's not pretend that the wheel has been reinvented. We've been elated before; we've ben disappointed before.

Whilst I agree that it's ok to disagree, I really do think people need to judge PC from now, otherwise the patience and support Ashton and O Leary asked for just won't happen.
We want the best for ipswich, but judging a manager based on a few months with last season squad isnt the best way to support it going forwards imo.

Look you don’t have to defend him every time someone criticises him. We know you think he’s very good.

I think he’ll do a decent job here now but I’m just tempering my optimism for the moment. I expected more last season even despite the mess he inherited.

Annoying you’ve quoted a bloody typo, ‘work’ not ‘with’. FFS.

Your last point though isn’t true, a lot of people were very excited about Hurst.

Whether people have already made judgements on last season doesn't matter, those people will be open to changing their judgement.

Support is what matters, and I think PC has the support of the vast majority.

I judge managers when they are in chage of the squads they put together and when they are working with a squad that's on the level required to achieve what that managers aims to achieve. If it then doesnt work, absolutely it would end in a parting of ways. However despite the clear problems with the squad at his disposal over those months, no I don't feel any negative reaction should go his way. Im sure If the owners etc believed that should be the case, PC wouldn't still be here either.

And sorry about the quote, I sometimes mis represent someones quote so made sure i copied and pasted instead.

Indeed, and I’m certainly not negative. Just slightly cautious at this point.

The team getting applauded out as of they had won the league for Keane’s first home match was right there with running round Carrow Road flashing notes in terms of hubris.

It’s a fair point about Cook’s performance last season. Yes he inherited a mess but we went game after game with barely creating a chance let alone scoring. It was a terrible weak as piss ending for what was supposed to be an easy run in.

He’s in no excuses territory already: he’s been backed fully and then some. Time to deliver.

We drew with Villa 1-1 with Grealish in their team early doors and looked a decent team. It was looking alright until the derby game when he dropped Bart. Something kicked of after that and they downed tools.

Indeed he does. When does he have to deliver by though? First minute of the season? Should he expect the howls of Cook out after the first bad performance or loss?

I’ve never seen a manager criticised so much and so soon, including wired stuff the qualifications of his coaching staff or for having dinner with them before. In the old days managers got 3 years. Cook got about 3 weeks with somebody else’s garbage team before it began.

I’d like to see where we are after Christmas before making my mind up on him, but I will be surprised if he gets that with either the American ownership or our supporters.
