I like how we all erased last season from the history books at the end of it... 21:57 - Aug 21 with 5381 viewsSitfcB

...and said this season was the start of new beginnings etc.

But now a lot of people are chucking out the ‘Cook has only won 4 in 20’ or whatever stat.

Do you think based on yesterday’s performance he’s far away from improving results?

No I don't, hense the time given line. I am judging Cook today, not in 5 games time. I hope he turns it around and am not saying he can't, just that up to now, the results are no where good enough.

This is spot on. The problem is that Cook has been disliked by many right from the off for some reason. Some are more than happy to stick to the narrative best squad in the league squandered by Cook, our leader and hero treated disgracefully by Cook, Evans our saviour/thank you Marcus, etc etc. People are even bleating on about McCarthy four years down the line as if that has any relevance.

New owners means a new start for all that are here. If people genuinely think now is the time to judge, perhaps there should be demonstrations to try and force out the new owners too. By the logic of it, it was better under Evans, Gill had taken us on a brilliant run to the play offs, and we’ve done nothing under thew owners. Under them we have a zero win percentage rate this year and a poor one last. Ashton? He’s brought in these players and he should go too. Booooo! Drive them out! Get back saviours Marcus and Chambo!

It’s all nonsense of course. The football club is essentially new, lumbered with tatty old facilities, courtesy of Evans’ neglect. We’ve been garbage from top to bottom for years, despite Gill’s history making run of three games (one against ten men). It needs to be built, not torn apart.

It would be good to leave Cook alone, as Lyall was in 1990/91, for the whole season to build a team. In 2021 that isn’t going to happen. However, at the very least we should see where we are in a few months time. But we live in an age of now now now, so I doubt that will happen.

I was not surprised last seasons heroes downed tools. It wasn’t the first time. I’m very disappointed with how we’ve started this season though. We should be better than this, but we are where we are. It’s no good pointing at other clubs in either direction. They are not us. We will improve. There are one or two decent players here and plenty of experience around - they’ll work it out if people let them. While my short term optimism has been punctured, long term it has not, with or without Cook.

The idea that Cook has been disliked by many from the start is absolute nonsense. He was in pretty much everyone's top 2/3 choices for the job and people were excited to have him on board. Questions started when it turned out he had no idea how to get a tune out of his squad and last season turned into a write off.

So if you think better times are soon to be had. Why so many posts bemoaning last season and so far this season. surely you'd find it more productive and more enjoyable to discuss the positives that are clearly there to be seen? That's actually a genuine question

Don't think people understand the depths of this new club

It's not just refreshed areas of ground or a complete squad overhaul.

It's a new sports science set up, with its own rules
New coaching team
New style for some players

So much is new. This isn't FM2021

We don't need to know the depths of the club and if you think Cook is orchestrating all of that, then perhaps it is you who needs educating.

Because I care about this football club and 4 games in to a new season we are winless. I can judge Cook how the hell I like. I do not need anybody's permission to say that up to now, today, Cook has failed. Think you are judging Cook by what you hope happens in the future, whereas I am judging him here and now. 4 wins in 21 league games isn't good enough.

We shall agree to differ. Once again I read that cliche ‘get a tune out of that squad’. That was more a mob than a squad. 40+ unfit players milling about, some too old, some disinterested, some not very good. In my opinion, nobody would have got anything much out of them.

It's not really an agree to differ issue to be honest, it's simply not true that many fans have disliked Cook from the start. We can agree to differ on your last point, and I do disagree that nobody could have got a tune out of those players, certainly to the extent of doing better than 4 wins in 16.

But im not talking about judgement. Im talking about the games themselves and having discussions around them rather than what they feel about PC

I Just find it odd when people talk about the volume of my threads, that people post various of their own but none go into any discussion about games othe than complete negativity when that's not the overall case.

For example to show balance, I questionned the 2nd half last week, and spoke about the specifics of that, whilst discussing the continued positives that can be seen.

Just find it interesting that people would rather post 20 threads about their thoughts on pc rather than the game of football.

he started being disliked the minute he showed a touch of honesty about the squad.

People then started rumours of PC going in all guns blazing from the start which was rubbish, and since then they've been circling on everything he does. even yesturday there's a post about the way he shows his appreciate to the fans.... how odd.

People bang on about performance, formations etc. I like to leave that to the manager. I pay my money to watch Ipswich and hope that they win. I couldn't care less if we win games with an own goal in the 93rd minute. People can say what they like on here, within reason, but I only want Ipswich to win football matches. If you wish to concentrate on the performance, then please carry on but I will concentrate on the results and up to now they are not good enough. Cook should be given more time, of course he should, but if I choose to judge him by the results, then I shall.

This is just made up nonsense.

Look back at when Cook came in, 99% complete positivity.

Then when he decided to go all in on the squad, look at the posts again. Still 95% positive about it, even though it proved not to work.

Stop making things up to support your ridiculous overly defensive stance on a manager that has achieved naff all with us, just because you went OTT with the love in at the time and you have some weird desperation to save face.

Why wouldn’t we is more the question. A relegated, bloated squad playing under its 3rd manager of the season under new ownership. It was a season of tumultuous change so I think special dispensation should be granted, no?

When managers get sacked the ethos is that you do it before Jan so they have a window to recruit in yet PC joins in March and is supposed to save a sinking ship. Seems to go against the grain. Even Mick came in November and was able to recruit Orr, Stearman, McGoldrick, Mings, Barnett etc.
[Post edited 22 Aug 2021 8:08]

I dont think he had a sinking ship to save. Matt Gill had turned the tide a bit and all Cook had to do was leverage that.

That he performed worse than both Lambert and Gill goes beyond just purely blaming the players like plenty did at the time, unless we are again this season claiming its all down to the players only.

Interesting you're bringing in %, ive not, and I didn't say anything about the number of people, I said he started being disliked when......... which you've just confirmed.

I don't need to save face. If it goes tits up, it goes tits up. We move on and then hope again the next one gets it right.

Do i still believe he'll do well, yes. Do I feel to many people are overly negative about things, yes.

I promise you all he cares about is getting a result. He said as much before the Don's game.

I like how we all erased last season from the history books at the end of it... on 08:31 - Aug 22 by chrismakin

if we're going back to last season again, as it's clearly to difficult for people to move on

The 3 games under Gill we played 3 sides who at the time of playing them were bottom half of the form table. Town had upto that point done ok against those in the bottom half of that form table, but struggled higher up.

This continued, the easy on paper games....... all sides we played ended their season in the top 8 of the form table at the time of us playing them, something we had struggled to beat all season with a side for verious reasons not upto it/interested/fit which ever.

What no one seems to want to answer though

IF PC left tomorrow. Who long would the new manager get? 4 games? What's the difference? Both managers would have started with a brand new squad, not 4 or 5 new players a brand new squad. Last season is completely irrelevant as this isn't the same club that PC took over in March.

Pre season - games cancelled, covid within the camp, late arrivals etc. You gave your obligatory downvote when I said we're entering a 2nd pre season period. It's exactly that and it's something that was always going to happen with a squad change of this magnitude and the timing of the transfers and injuries etc.

If the answer to a new manager coming in is " he'd be given time" then PC deserves exactly the same before his side gets boo'd off the pitch for a draw, or having to answer very cleverly put questions from the media.
