Bolton (H)
Lincoln (A)
Sheff Wed (H)
Doncaster (H)

What's your (a) predicted points (b) bare minimum to keep Cookie in the game?

I reckon 7 points (Win against Bolton and Wednesday, draw with Lincoln, lose to Doncaster) and the bare minimum is 4.

As I'm not the owner it's unlikely, you're right.

Ha ha.

I will sleep easier tonight in that knowledge.

We are nowhere near the performances and results under Hurst though.

And it was very clear pretty early on we had bought players out of their depth.

This time we've bought players, many of whom could, or have been, playing in the division above.

Of course if we lost the next six in a row questions would be asked.

You can flip that round, can't you? Hurst had a bottom 6 budget and recruitment reflected that, Cook has a top 2 budget and recruitment reflects that. Even less leeway in the second situation.

Maybe. But my point stands. I'm seeing a lot of "cook on thin ice" stuff. Maybe with some fans, certainly not with the owners and CEO

I don't think he's on thin ice right now, but you seem convinced that we can be sat in the relegation zone at the end of September and not be under hugh pressure. That's just not realistic.

Spot on, in any of these situations the owners have to publicly back their manager. In private given their outlay and ongoing outlay I would imagine they are concerned. If you wanted to 'gel' a team and not worry about promotion in the short term I don't think you would shell out on the likes of Morsy or Celina. Surely you would build your set up over 2 or 3 years and mix youth with experience. Otherwise why would Ashton not be worried about cat 1 academy which everyone seems to think is the holy grail.

We will either get 12.

Or 1.

Or 4 including four 2-2 draws.

It's remarkably naive to think that because Cook was well backed in the transfer market and has been given public words of support that his job is absolutely safe for the foreseeable future. If we lose the next four games and we're sat on 3 points from 9 games then Cook will be under huge pressure, especially given his poor start here last season. I think it's unlikely we'll lose the next 4 and I remain hopeful that Cook will be the man to lead us to promotion but the idea that there's no pressure from his employers and won't be anytime soon is pure fiction.

So even if the owners and CEO, who have heavily backed him financially, say he is under no pressure, we should call for him to be sacked?

I just don't get it. It's like nobody has been listening to a word Gamechanger or Mark Ashton have said.

I have been listening. But I don’t agree. Some fans may be happy to waste the first ten games of the season. But I’m not.

At what point do we as a fan base actually put any pressure on anyone, loads of clubs bought loads of new players and have started way better than us. We need to win games. It is that simple.

Two wins (Bolton/Donny) and two draws (Lincoln/SW) would give our season a foothold at last. Can't really afford for it to be much less.

I was right to point out that Doncaster were crap too!

I wanted nine points from five games, can’t do that now but eight or, preferably, ten would be good.
