I know I'm in a minority..... 10:54 - Oct 4 with 8190 viewsblueysbackside

....but the season for me started when Morsy and Celina were fit - and Cook was able to field what is arguably his strongest XI. What took place last season and early this season is an irrelevance to me - and I've posted before the reasons why. What he needs now is until Xmas to get this lot into a well-oiled winning machine. If we're still where we are now, I'll admit defeat. Until, then, however, he's still the man for me.

The only way any of the loanees stay permanently is if we go up, so we're back again to the owners and management having higher expectations than you for this season.

Sorry, but you don’t know that. So if we don’t go up and, say, make the play-offs, then Bonne won’t sign? And I might be wrong here but can you show me any direct quotes from the owners saying we must go up THIS season. It’s investment for the long term.

Which of Walton, Coulsen, Barry, Celina or Bonne are you expecting to sign permanently if we’re still in Division 3 next season?

Since you ask, Bonne and Coulson. Barry will be back at Villa v soon.

Sorry, but apply some common sense. The owners are on record that it isn't their intention to break or bend the SCMP rules (and why should they have to, our income dwarfs most clubs in the league anyway! How much does the manager need?!). We're stacked with players on big long-term contracts, who almost certainly take up our entire wage budget, none of whom will be easy to shift after an indifferent season in League One.

It is very unlikely we'll be shopping for any striker whose current contract runs to £18k a week.

The long term project is getting to the Prem, not getting out of League 1.

Indeed. They've signed to join a promotion push, not play mid-table football.

They, along with players like Morsy will go if we are here next season.

I think Bonne would stay. As for the others, if we don’t go up (and I don’t think we will) this season), we could well see a similar clear out next summer along the lines of the one we just had. To say players will ‘just go’ is nonsense

And - shock, horror - it might take a little longer than anticipated to get out of this division. With or without Cook and this current squad

They clearly can't "just go", but you can be sure their agents will be agitating to go back to a higher level.

The 'project' was promotion this season with the budget and squad we have.

Exactly, that is what people need to realise — this is not a squad built to be carefully nurtured in the hope it storms the league in two years' time. It has to happen now, which is why it has to *really* start happening in the next four weeks.

Nothing about ‘this season’.

His words were carefully chosen and none of them have uttered a word since a ball was kicked. Which is fairly telling.

Everything about the investment, the 6 very expensive short-term loans etc point to the goal being promotion this season.

You don't invest at that level and then say "ah, 12th will do".

I agree if we got to the playoffs, showing a real bond and progress in play etc Cook might get another season, but if we keep bobbing along in mid-table Cook is gone.

Just need to keep Celina away from no 10 spot, he needs to be out wide.

So we have a clear out again this summer and this time next year fans like yourself will be writing off a fourth season in League 1 as another transitional season. You're all over the shop, petal.

If Bonne keeps up this form he might not even be here past January. I’d certainly think it’s unlikely he’d be here next season if we don’t go up - being a local lad would help but his price will be increasing by the week and there will likely be other suitors - if QPR even want to sell him

Coulsen I guess is possible, but hardly likely. Even if that did happen though it would hardly debunk the point being made though would it? We certainly haven’t splashed out on the likes of Celina to finish mid table in League One

The owners and players really rate Cooky as do I from what I have observed. Great times ahead.

It is fairly telling….of an ownership who are now coming to terms with the probability that direct promotion isn’t happening this season. Just interested, Grizzly….Let’s turn that on its head. So would you say the signings were told promotion is the aim this season and if we don’t go up you can leave (and something like that is in their contracts)? And do you think they all decided to sign knowing they would leave if we didn’t go up? Pretty crap buying strategy, no?

The conversations some are willing to have about building for the future, squad gelling, etc are ones we should be having in the Championship not in League 1. There is only 1 plan for L1 and that is to get out of it at the earliest possible opportunity.

If Cook can't deliver that quickly he'll be moved on - he won't be sat here at Xmas with us in the bottom half - he'll be long gone.
