But actually, we had a goal ruled out marginally for offside, Bonne has a free header he should score, and Nsialla should score his header at the back post from a corner.
So yes it wasnt 'sexy' football, but we are going to have to realise that is going to be hard to play against sides sitting flat back 10. Ultimately we are creating chances and defending very strongly (bar the goal of course).

Whilst I thoroughly and obviously not only enjoyed the win but the manner of the win (ie in injury time) I truly believe we've still got a good few gears to move up to though
For me, the significant part of the season will be after Christmas once the strength of this squad shows it's true value.I'd argue ANY other squad in this division has "replacements" such as ours - think we already know that much
If we can stay in touching distance of the pack , Christmas and beyond SHOULD be very poignant and exciting once others are potentially struggling with suspensions and injuries |  |

I see a pattern in our games whereby we ( especially at PR), are often patiently keeping possession and building attacks against an often “11 behind the ball” opposition when they are not in possession themselves. Or, we are battling against opponents who start the game with a high, full press against us. However Cook’s training strategy of interval running is baring fruit as our squad is fast developing endurance and an ability to press opponents themselves long into the second half, when often our opponents have no longer the fitness levels to continue their pressing game .
The last two games, ( Pompey and Fleetwood) illustrate this very well. First half on Tuesday there’s not much between us . We nick a goal just before half time , then second half, out fitness levels come to fore and Pompey can’t stay the pace with us. Saturday, similar pattern again ( although wr should have put 2- 3 goals away before they equalised . But our winner came because we could maintain a higher octane attacking move deep into injury time .
IMO we are only going to get better as the season and our fitness levels increase . |  |

Agree wholeheartedly. Wasn’t at the Fleetwood game but I started a similar thread after Portsmouth. It’s certainly not sexy as you say, and no it’s not our desired end point. But an ability to defend strongly and strangle a game was the exact thing we missed over the first 6-odd matches of the season. What might the Bolton game have ended up as, for example, if we’d have applied ourselves in that manner first half?
The fact we created the number of chances you list hopefully indicates that attacking and defending for 90minutes will soon become our MO. | |

We're just simply not going to be at 100% every week and for the entirety of every single game. Nobody is. Ever. More so a League 1 side that's had a complete overhaul during the summer.
I think we can all take heart from the fact that, despite not being at our best, we've found a way to deservedly win a game whilst creating plenty of chances. |  | | |

Yep. A close offside call, Bonne's chance and Toto's header into an unguarded net after the keeper flaps at it - difficult in the end but a big chance nonetheless.

Also probably worth a mention that Fleetwood also had a very nice 10-15 minute spell in the first half. They had a fantastic free kick routine in the first half too. First half they came to play, second half they played to stifle us and did that well. Not as bad as their league position suggests. They made us work hard for our win and credit to the team, they kept going and scored an absolute peach to win the game. No hopeful punt upfield to "the big fella". A quality goal from a quality move. Something we can all be happy about.

I think for a few there's an expectation that league 1 should be easy no matter who you play.
Yes you get the odd high scoring games. You get that in any league. But every game is a game of chess. Sometimes it's thrilling, sometimes it requires patience and determination and managing to see out the game better than the opponent.
There's nothing wrong with our performance Saturday, typical league 1 game against a side who have beaten and drawn.against those higher in the table. |  |

I agree. Sexy football is not the only way. Sometimes you need to be organised and do what it takes. Discipline was lacking - hopefully we have it now.
As regards different halves - if we're having a better 2nd than 1st half, this is progress. The number of points we've thrown away from winning positions is well documented. We need to have our tails up when the oppo is flagging. See Portsmouth, for example. |  | | |

Yes fleetwood were actually a really good side. Look at the teams they have drawn against and beaten. They are not where they should be in the league and will be higher at the end of the season. Their goal was a really well worked goal! Bit worried we will struggle against the top two in the coming weeks as they carry even more of a threat than fleetwood.
We kept playing footall which was pleasing to see on Saturday. Ddin't give up and our second goal was a really really well worked move.

What’s confusing? We played well on Saturday and deserved to win as I’ve stated many times - but the first half was dull as we set a platform to win from.
Just found it strange that there was a post saying they are confused as to those saying we didn’t creat a lot and then listed examples of us not creating a lot…..if people read what I actually wrote things would be easier | |
